Maths

In maths we have been learning how to find the area of a triangle.

RULE:

The answer equals half of the base times the height.

So if the base is 6 cm and the height is 10cm half of 6 cm is 3 cm so 3 cm times 10 equals 30 cm² and that is the answer.

PDH

In PDH we have started up a unit called Peace Patrol invented by Mrs Crowley who came in a gave year six a talk about Peace Patrol.

Mrs Crowley said that if there are only two teachers in the playground then

they can’t see everything that is happening in the playground but if we have peace patrol then that solves that problem.

Our job is to help kids that have been kicked out of the game or are lonely and sad.

We write a report about any incidents in the playground.

Art

In art this week year 6 have working on a Sidney Nolan Ned Kelly artwork.

Some of the year 6 students have entered their Sidney Nolan art into the art show that was recently put on.

Year 6 has also been working on a close up artwork of a character from the book Fox that we have been reading in our english unit.

English

In English this week, we have been reading the Island by Armin Greder and are currently writing a book review on it. In the Island there is an important lesson about real life. It tells you that a stranger comes on to the Island and spreads fear among the islanders. Year 6 has related this to the situation of many refugees who are treated as outcasts and not with the dignity that they deserve.

This has opened the eyes of year six to the ugly truth that is happening in our world right now.  Although this book does not have the happiest story line it does have a powerful meaning that the whole of year six has tried to uncover.
