Welcome to 2020

Welcome to the 2020 school year. It is exciting to see the school growing, we now have 254 students enrolled, 11 classes in total.  We welcome our 85 preps and families and another 43 new students in Year 1 to 6.

With the growth of the school we have employed additional staff.  It gives me great pleasure to introduce our newly appointed staff members: Paul Dobney, Learning Specialist and Year 2/3 teacher, Bruce Huynh (Year 3/4), Cate Bain-Lowry (Year 1), Emily Kurts (Year 1), Nick Lovett (Prep), Noha Soulibe (Prep), Jarn Osman (PE), Sarah Atkins (Integration Aide) and Kym Dolan (administration).  To assist parents in getting to know new staff we have published their profiles in this edition of the newsletter, including photos of all staff.

CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK

The Australian Government has advised that there is no cause for alarm with respect to the coronavirus and that the risk to Australian public remains relatively low. The Department of Education and Training has consulted with Victoria’s Chief Health Officer and Department of Health and Human Services. Schools have been asked to remind staff and students about practising good hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene such as covering the mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with a tissue, or coughing into the elbow, dispose the tissue into a bin and then wash hands afterwards.  Wash hand regularly, after using the toilet, and before eating.  As a safety precaution we are asking students and parents to sanitise their hands when entering the classroom.  In the interest of health safety, students who present with flue like symptoms will be sent home immediately. Any child sent home from school with flue like symptoms will be required to present a medical certificate stating that they are able or well enough to return to school.

Exclusion of well children or staff from school who have travelled to Wuhan, China, or any other areas where there have been reported cases is NOT required, unless the following applies:

·         the person is a confirmed case of novel coronavirus; or

·         the person is a close contact with a confirmed case of novel coronavirus in the past 14 days.

PREP MORNING TEA AND THANK YOU

Thank you to Families & Friends for hosting morning tea for our new Prep parents. I am sure the new parents valued the opportunity to meet other prep parents over a cup of coffee.

COFFEE CART

What a way to start the year! Thank you Tania Quick (parent of Perry IK & Cecelia Prep S) and Amanda Lauchlan (parent of Will 1P) for organising the coffee cart, it was great to see parents and staff connecting and exchanging conversation.

CONDOLENCES

We express our deepest sympathy to Lena Cirilo (Visual Art Teacher) on the recent passing of her mother.
