Curriculum Day - No School

There will be a Curriculum Day on Friday 15th November. Students are not required at school for this day.

Out of School Hours Care will be available on this day for those who require care. Please contact the program directly on 9578 1327 or see April or Sharelle in the Hall during program hours.

2020 School Payments now on Compass for processing

Annual Parent Payments: Booklists, Essential Student Learning Items, Optional Items and Voluntary Financial Contributions for 2020 are now available for payment on Compass. If you wish to purchase the 2020 booklist through the school, please ensure payments have been made by Friday 13th December.

Payment Options

It is the school’s preference that all payments are made via the Compass Parent Portal (Course Confirmation & Payments) as you will be able to complete all annual school agreements required at the same time. Compass accepts Visa Debit and Credit cards.

Payment plans are also available if you pay via Compass.

This is the recommended option if you intend to pay for all essential and voluntary contributions, but perhaps cannot do so in a lump sum right now as Compass does not allow you to go back in to process remaining items at a later time.

Manual payments can also be made at the office by cash, credit card or EFTPOS.  If you choose this option you must still access Compass to complete the annual school agreements.

Manual payments will not be accepted over the phone or by writing credit card details on the bottom of the payment slip.

Donations to the Building Fund are tax deductable and a separate tax deductable receipt will be issued.

The State Government now provides a CSEF payment of $125.00 per child to go towards Camps, Swimming, Interschool Sports and Excursions.  To be eligible for this Fund you must be in possession of a Health Care Card which will be valid as at 29th January 2020. If you believe you are eligible for this payment, please come to the office to collect an application form.  Please do not pay any contributions for 2020 until you have completed this form and spoken to our Business Manager, Jan Cassidy.

Please contact the office if you have questions regarding payments or processes.

Foundation News

We can’t believe it’s nearly the end of the year and that the children are getting ready to transition into year one. We still have a lot of exciting things coming up including the whole school transitions, the swimming program and inquiry incursions.

In literacy we have covered the trigraph AIR with our word of the week being hair and the trigraph TCH as in watch. The children of course are showing so much more capability in their understanding of 2 and 3 sounds together to make 1 sound. They have had more practice of independent reading passages and comprehension questioning. When reading at home please ensure that you are also practising questioning at the end to gauge your child’s understanding of the text. Reading is not only about reading words but also developing an understanding of the meaning of the text read. Coming up in phonics we will focus on split diagraphs also known as silent, bossy or magic E.

As it’s coming up to report time the children have been doing many 'Show Me What You Knows'. We have been refining our understanding of place value being tens and ones and understanding the value of a number given. Some children have even enjoyed the challenge of working up into the hundreds. Place value is very important to understand the ordering of numbers which leads into addition and subtraction too.  We will be also exploring some capacity and having the children know about which container holds more or less. The children love these measurement units as it provides a fun, engaging hands on focus. Also over the next couple of weeks we will be revising addition and subtraction and building on our strategies to solve every day problems.

In inquiry we have learnt a lot about animals, their groupings and features. This learning has also been integrated into our writing program. Next we are extending or focus on living things also being plants, and are again looking at different types, features and what they need to survive. This will allow us to do some planting and lots of exploration, which the children thoroughly love. Today we will have the  'Star of the Sea' incursion where the children will get to pet a range of different animals. An update will be in the next edition along with some photos.

Year 1 News

The Year 1 students enjoyed a day at The Children’s Collingwood Farm on Monday. As well as being able to feed and pat the animals, they made connections between the animals and plants they saw on the farm and the food that ends up on their plate.
