Grade 5 - 6
Reading and Writing
Over the past two weeks the students have been delving deeper into Persuasive Writing. They have been reading text types that are persuasive and looking into many different persuasive devices that are used in writing. They then all completed a learning task on persuasive writing, their task was to persuade their teachers into doing a hobby or an activity that they enjoy doing regularly. These persuasive writing pieces allowed for the teachers to see all of the different persuasive devices they had learnt about how they have applied them to their own writing.
Mathematics
The students have been working on multiplication and shapes over the past two weeks. Within out Math groups the students were shown multiple exposures to the different ways in which multiplication problems can be solved. During shapes this week the students created a ‘Geometry Town’ this task saw the students follow a list of instructions using geometric language to create their own all ‘Geometry Town’. The students were really engaged and loved participating in a fun and enjoyable lesson. Although all students were given the same instructions not one town was identical as the sizes of the shapes all varied widely.
