Principal's Report

By Frank Catalano

Dear Members of the Glen Waverley Primary School Community,

I trust all is well with you and your family and welcome to this fortnight’s newsletter where so much is shared about our fabulous school.

As per usual, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on 9802 9938 or via email at frank.catalano@education.vic.gov.au

Novel Coronavirus Update

It is quite evident that the Omicron variant is continuing to impact on all of our lives, however it is extremely pleasing that the symptoms most people are enduring are manageable particularly with the children. Once again, a sincere thank you for the manner in which the entire GWPS community have supported one another and please continue to keep an eye on Compass for updates.

Swimming and Non-Swimmer’s Programs

Thank you to the families who have supported our school’s swimming programs as they have been a resounding success. Included are some photos of the children enjoying their swimming lessons and also some of the learning the children who remain at school have completed. For those who may not be aware, our school implements a very comprehensive water – safety program for this group of learners.

ICAS Assessment Tasks

The ICAS Assessment tasks are very popular in our school, and I am thrilled to report that with the 2021 tasks, 9 children across our school achieved either the highest or equal highest in the State and in order to acknowledge this the children receive an ICAS medal. Pre-covid, the children, their family and I would attend a ceremony, however as this year’s ceremony will be virtual, the ICAS leaders asked our school to record our school’s presentation and also interview the children, some parents and me. The footage will then be used at the virtual event.

Congratulations to the following children for their outstanding achievements and also thank you to all of the families who made the time to attend the ceremony and recording.

School Council Elections

Thank you to the members of our school community who have nominated for School Council, may I take this opportunity to wish you all well with the election process and also strongly encourage all parents to ensure you complete and return your voting slip by Monday 7th March.

I look forward to announcing our 2022 School Council in the next newsletter.

School Uniform

As a school community we are very proud of our fresh, clean and crisp looking student uniform however it saddens me when I see the ‘Lost Property Box” filled with lost, misplaced and unnamed items. Children (and parents) may I encourage everyone to check their uniform and if it doesn’t have a name on it, please see to it ASAP as we do have staff who are responsible for checking the lost property box and they do return named items to the rightful owner on a very regular basis.
