Principal's Report

Principal’s Report 11th March, 2022

It certainly has been a mixed bag with the weather lately with some beautiful sunshine, a lot of humidity and even some rain. We all must be thankful that we are not in those flood affected areas in Queensland and NSW at the moment. It has been tragic to watch the devastation and it emphasises the need for us all to take climate change seriously and to act with more urgency. We here at Lyndhurst have a wonderful “Student Lead” sustainability program and I know our Sustainability Leaders have appreciated the encouragement of our community in implementing so many measures that, each day, help us move towards a more sustainable future.

Second Vaccination Clinic

I am pleased to announce that there will be a second pop-up vaccination clinic at our school later this term. The clinic, which will be open to staff, community members, parents and students, will be held on Saturday 9th April which is exactly 8 weeks after our last clinic. This means that all students who had their first vaccination at our initial clinic can now safely have their second vaccination at the upcoming clinic. We had over 100 families access this service last time and I would love to see many more families taking this opportunity. Further details will be sent home to parents soon so you can book in.

New School in Cranbourne West

A new school will open in Cranbourne West in 2023. It currently has the interim name of Camms Rd PS, even though it is not on  Camms Rd. The new facility will be located on Morningside Boulevard, Cranbourne West near the intersection with Central Parkway. The school will include an early learning centre on site and has been designed as a Supported Inclusion School, providing accessible and inclusive education for all students. These schools have a greater emphasis on supporting students with disabilities to access specialist infrastructure and teaching expertise to ensure all Victorian children have access to a great local school. The selection process for the new Principal of the school is currently being conducted. The Principal will be in place early in term 2 this year. For more details on the new school, got to:

Double Celebration Week

A reminder that we have a long weekend this weekend with a public holiday on Monday for Labour Day. Labour Day commemorates the time when Australian Workers gained the 40 hour work week with the 5 work days split into 8 hours work, 8 hours recreation and 8 hours sleep. It used to be referred to as 8 Hour Day. Next week is also St Patrick’s Day, a day of significant importance to Irish people all over the world. We have a number of staff of Irish descent, including me, and I wish all members of our Irish community a Happy St Patrick’s Day.

Casey Student Leader Reception

Soon, I will be heading off to Bunjil Place in Fountain Gate with our senior student leaders for the City of Casey Student Leader Forum. It’s always a great event and a wonderful opportunity for our leaders mix with, and hear from, student leaders from all over our municipality. There will be guest speakers as well and we are all looking forward to it.

Harmony Day

Remember too, that Harmony Day is on its way! Probably the highlight of the whole Lyndhurst calendar, this colourful and fun day is one we all look forward to! We are certainly hopeful that parents will be allowed on site for the morning assembly, which we plan to run outdoors. So, get your costumes ready for another great Lyndhurst Harmony Day!
