Basketball is back!
We are only two weeks into this years season and it all looks a bit different. For one thing, with our year 6's and 7's going to high school all at once last year, the ring looks a fair bit taller for the new players coming in! However, this hasn't stopped all teams from having competitive scores and a few great wins already.
This year the school community will field three teams in the local competition, with support from Mr Chatto, Ms Dolman, Mr K and Ms Bianca and Danny. The Bulls and Hornets will be our year 5/6 teams, and the Nuggets will play in the year 3/4 competition.
There are a lot of new faces right across the competition this year and it looks like almost all teams in the competition are finding their feet. This has led to some exciting play and a lot of learning. The coaches and umpires are doing a great job getting up to speed and supporting players to work together as a team.
Basketball has always been a sport where we learn about resillience, teamwork, respect for opponents and personal challenge. We are already seeing these new teams take up this challenge, with players supporting each other, respectfully challenging their opponents and acknowledging good play from all sides. We have a strong history as tough but respectful players in this competition, and it looks like all teams are ready to continue that attitude this year.
A reminder for families is that this competition is not a school run event, and although we have a lot of staff willing to support each week, the duty of care for players rests with families. This includes ensuring that you are there to pick up your child promptly after games. As teachers, we would never leave a child unattended at the basketball stadium, and so arriving on time for pickups helps us all start the weekend on time. If you need to make special arrangements for your child, these must be communictaed to the school in writing before game days.
We are looking forward to another great year of strong competition and we wish all the players and coaches the best of luck.
