Performing Arts  Matters

This week I am pleased to announce that preparations for the 85th Anniversary Concert on May 17 are in full swing. Our ensembles are busy preparing and after discussion with our Head of Junior School, Mrs Greenwood, our entire Junior School will be performing as a massed choir. This is a great opportunity to experience the performing arts after a 2-year hiatus and an opportunity for parents to see the range of experiences their sons may have as members of the performing arts at St Pius X. Please mark this date in your calendars for Term 2.  More information will follow.

Open Day is on 19 March and we will have a range of performances by students on this day. A timetable has been sent to the relevant ensembles. Please store your bags in E1 and make sure you are here at least 15 minutes before your performance. I look forward to meeting as many parents as I can on the day.

As part of our renewal of performing arts opportunities we will be having our first rehearsal with our rejuvenated Junior Chorale on Thursday morning. It is planned that this group will be the backbone of vocal performance at SPX for years to come. If you haven’t nominated to be part of this group comprising of Year 5 and 6 students as yet, just send an email to myself (atimmins@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au) or Ms McHugh

(mmchugh@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au) and we will add you to the list.

Pius in Profile this month features an appeal to donate towards the purchase of a St Pius X ceremonial bugle. It is intended that this instrument will be used at all our ceremonies featuring the Last Post and Reveille. The position of official bugler for these ceremonies is very important and an instrument fitting these occasions will become a recognisable part of the history that St Pius X College has in relation to the military in Australia and the contribution that St Pius X has had to service in our armed forces over the last 85 years. Please consider making a contribution.

Music Tuition Housekeeping

A reminder to parents and students: if you will be attending a school excursion that happens to fall on the day of your music lesson, it is your responsibility to inform your tutor in advance so they can make alternative arrangements for your lesson.
