International Women’s Day Assembly
A sincere thank you to Mercy Year 10 Coordinator Ms Tracy Stancliffe and Principal Ms Brenda Timp who accompanied Mercy College Year 10 Student Portfolio Leaders Lily Robson and Tahlia Tuckerman, supported by 6 Year 10 students, who spoke eloquently and meaningfully at our International Women’s Day Assembly on Tuesday.
We look forward to a range of opportunities to join such communities as Mercy and Brigidine Colleges over the course of the year to advance the themes of IWD including 'Break the Bias' through Respectful Relationships. Our Year 10 students will be joined by Brigidine College on Friday 1 April for a Ceroc Dance Workshop at Oxford Falls, while our student leaders will be hosted by the Mercy Student Leadership Team in Week 9 to further our opportunities for Respectful learning and connection between our schools in community.
The Assembly was led by our Student Leadership Team and Year 12 particularly College Captain Will Staber, Andrew McKinnon and Mihir Mathur.
Peer Support
Congratulations to our Year 11 Peer Support Leaders on the manner in which they launched our Peer Support program with the Year 5 and 7 students on Monday. The level of positive interaction and connection between the Peers Support Leaders and Students has reinforced the high regard all three cohorts (Year 5, 7 and 11) are held in.
The next Peer Support session will occur next Wednesday 16 March during Period 3 when Year 11 Peer Support leaders, Year 7 and our newest students Year 5 will meet up once again to reinforce the “vertical” connections across the College.
Performing Arts Exemplary Participation Awards
Emerging from a challenging period of limited performances, lockdown learning and online lessons last year I am pleased to report that many of our music students have been able to maintain a very high standard of performance, learning and participation, across the music programs which are also a credit to Mr Timmins and his team.
Not least of which include two students reported to me this week for maintaining perfect attendance to their Jazz Piano Lessons: Congratulations to Hugo Godfrey and Liam Godfrey of Year 8.
Huskisson Triathlon
Last weekend the Shoalhaven Region Jervis Bay, played host to the Annual Huskisson Triathlon series and reports highlighted the performances of connections of the College including Oliver Sheather (Class of 2020), Josh Sheather (Year 12) and Joseph Wilson and Oliver Ryder (Year 5).
Old Boys Gala Day - Sunday 13 March
Given the continuing weather and sodden conditions of Watkins and Walsh ovals at Oxford Falls, we have made the decision to postpone the 1st XI Football vs Old Boys XI and Touch Rugby fixtures this Sunday. We will however proceed with the 1st V vs Old Boys Basketball match, conditions permitting.
