Kanga Cricket report

On Friday 11th 2022, we went to our first inter-school sporting event! It was Kanga Cricket, where we played cricket and tried to go to the finals. The schools that we competed with were Footscray North, Footscray Primary & Footscray West. There were four mixed teams and two main teams. Main teams were trying to play in the finals, while Mixed teams weren’t playing in the finals. It was a HUGE event. Unfortunately, we did not continue onto the finals, which means that we lost, but it was great fun. The sporting event happened at Hansen Reserve West Footscray. All students from Year 5/6 had to attend Kanga Cricket in the school: Corpus Christi Kingsville.

My Day at Kanga Cricket

On Friday, we had Kanga Cricket! I was on the female team which meant it was more serious than the mixed team. The team captains were Isabelle and the vice-captain was Vivian. We each took turns to do fielding, bowling, batter and wicketkeeper. We were at Hansen Reserve and the games began! We were facing off against Footscray Primary first.  My team won the first round! We were screaming with joy! The whole school heard me and my team yelling!  We later moved on to the finals, it was a tough game. It was a close call but sadly we lost. We said good game to each other. While we were playing cricket, I got hit in the arm and it hurt but it was fine within the next second. We played another game because we had spare time, this time Footscray Primary won! We were happy for them! We later walked back to school and had some zooper doopers!

What my day was like at Kanga Cricket

At 9:10 we made a move to Hansen Reserve where we were going to play. I was on a mixed team with me, Kingston, Hiep, Ajai and Violet. First we played against Footscray Primary. We lost that one but it was still fun to play. Then we stayed where we were and waited for the next team to come. The next team that came was Footscray West.  We lost that one but at the same time we did win I think.  We had a bit of a break just to find out where we were going. When we found out where we were going we made a small move.  We got there and we were fielding first and that was fun. We all got to have a go at bowling and we played against Footscray North.  When it was time to be batting we all had some snack.  WE WON that one and it was a great feeling. When our games were done, we waited for a bit and then went back to school. That was my day.

Our Day of Kanga Cricket

On the 11th of March, we were going to be playing Kanga Cricket. At around 9:10, all of the grade 5/6 ‘s went outside of the school to walk to Hansen Reserve. There were three other schools who were competing with us, they were Footscray West, Footscray North,  Footscray Primary, and Saint John’s. When we arrived, we immediately went to put our bags down to rest or exercise for the cricket game. After a few minutes of play, one of the teachers from the other school gave an announcement to all of the schools. He told everyone to group together into their assigned groups. There were five groups in total: the Girls team, Boys team, Mixed team one, Mixed team two,  and Mixed team three.  I was in Mixed team two. As we went to our area to play, we found out that we had to wait out for a game because one of the school's groups had no kids at all! After 30 minutes we finally got to play. When I went to bat with Joseph, we got 6 runs in total! In all of the games we played, we lost all of them. Overall, Kanga Cricket was really enjoyable and I’m excited to do it again next year.
