AUSLAN

Welcome to Auslan!

A huge thankyou to all the students and their grown ups who have stopped me to say how much they are enjoying Auslan.  It’s always lovely to hear when students enjoy their learning.

The students in PP-year 2 have been learning “I Can Sing a Rainbow” ‘5 Cheeky Monkeys’ and “See It, Say it Sign It -Auslan” in class to help consolidate their understanding of number and colour signs as well as fingerspelling.  Students also enjoyed playing the colour game. The teacher signs “Where is yellow?” and the students must sign yellow and point when they find it.  Sometimes we even sign rainbow!

At the end of the term students in years 3-6 will be submitting their Auslan assessment. They are to film a conversation entirely in Auslan.  If you would like to see the requirements for the assessment and the assessment criteria it is on Teams.  Students have their own login to access the Team for their class.  I have also created a class notebook where I have uploaded the information we have been learning in class.  They are also able to message me on Teams if they are having any issues, or as one student did, message me to say Happy Tuesday! Please note that permissions for social chat in Auslan Teams have been disabled.  However, they are still able to collaborate through the class notebook.

Students have now learned, numbers, colours, question signs, family signs as well as continuing with fingerspelling.

Ask your student to show you how to play the “Where is ?’ colour game, or ask How old you are.  My answer is always 100!

How do we sign for "Where?"

Palms up, hands move out and in.
