Another two weeks since our last newsletter and hasn't it flown by!! Just like the year itself - everything is going so quickly! There is still a lot to happen before the end of term, but what a fabulous term it has been so far.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

On Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th March we will be holding ONLINE Parent Teacher Interviews. Staff will be available both nights 3.30pm - 7.00pm. Please book appointments in with your child/s teacher ASAP. See Compass for further information.

SCHOOL PHOTO DAY

School Photo Day is this Friday 25th March. Please see the School Photo Day section in this newsletter for more information and/or check Compass.

STUDENT LEADER BADGE PRESENTATIONS

will be conducted at assembly on the last day of term one at 1.30 - 2.20pm, with a school finish time of 2.30pm. Year 6 student leaders may invite 2x family members to attend the assembly who are fully vaccinated, wear a mask and check in as visitors at the front office. Assembly will be held in the gym. Unfortunately, no other visitors can attend assembly at this time. COVID Safe measures will be in place.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

Last night we held the first School Council for 2022. We commenced with the AGM and appointed councillors to various roles of responsibility. We congratulate the following councillors:

LAST DAY OF TERM FRIDAY APRIL 8

Kinder - Year 2 Easter Hat Parade

Please keep Friday 8th April 9am free in your diaries to attend the K-2 Easter Hat Parade. Families and visitors all welcome as this will be an outdoor event.

3-4 Tabloid Sports

On the last day of term the 3-4 students will participate in a morning tabloid sport rotation. Families and visitors also welcome to attend, as this will be an outdoor event, also from 9am.

More details on both events to come!

The 5-6 students will be running their Survivor Day as an end of term activity, however this will take place earlier in the last week of term on Tuesday 5th April. Survivor Day is for students and staff only. However, visitors have been and are welcome to attend 5/6 sport competitions held each Friday morning both onsite here at HPS and at other local schools.

ANNUAL IMPLEMENTATION PLAN (AIP)

Hillsmeade PS completed their school review at the end of 2021. This review informs the strategic direction of the school for a 4 year period. The 4 year plan is called the School's Strategic Plan. Each year the school then creates an Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) that articulates goals and key improvement strategies for a 12 month period, directed by the Strategic Plan.

Recently, the AIP for HPS was completed and endorsed, enabling the school leadership team and staff to commence implementation of the AIP. The AIP can be found on the school's website.

In 2022 we will have a strong focus on EAL, Literacy, Numeracy, Digital Learning, Student Agency and the ELC's Quality Improvement Program. If you have any questions about the AIP, please don't hesitate to reach out to a School Council member or member of staff to seek further information, however I encourage you to read the AIP on our school's website.

EASTER RAFFLE

We will soon be running an Easter raffle that will be drawn on the last day of this term - Friday 8th April. Tickets will be distributed very soon!

SCHOOL UNIFORM/DRESS CODE POLICY REVIEW

The current policy is up for review and we are seeking feedback from the community as to the current policy in place and any advice for moving forward. Please complete this survey to assist with the policy development that will be taken to School Council in Term 2.

NATIONAL RIDE TO SCHOOL DAY - 25TH MARCH

As this Friday is 'Ride to School Day' it is timely to remind students and families of the following Department of Education policy- "Cycling to and from School".

Please be advised that:

Children under the age of 12 may ride on footpaths, as can a supervising adult. They are required to give way to pedestrians and to wheel their bicycles over pedestrian and children’s crossings.
Children aged 12 years or older are required by law to ride on the road.
Road safety authorities recommend that children under the age of 9 are supervised by an adult when riding on the road. Depending on their cycling skills and experience, some children over this age may still require supervision.
Parents and students should be reminded that the law requires that all cyclists wear an approved bicycle helmet. Approved helmets have the Australian Standards Mark TM (AS/NZS 2063) and will be marked as suitable for cycling.

WALKING TO SCHOOL REMINDER

Parents and carers who are supervising students travelling to and from school are responsible for considering and planning for any risks arising from the children’s walk (or, ride, scoot or skate) and the particular needs of the children under their supervision. As a school we encourage you to consider the age of the child walking to school and route that they will take between both locations. Thank you for taking this into consideration in your planning.
