Zones of Regulation

Over the past few weeks, we have worked closely with the children on developing their understanding of the Zones of Regulation, which has assisted them as they have been building their friendships with one another. The children have examined photographs of faces expressing different emotions and reflected on how the people in these were feeling and what might have led to them to this. To extend on this, the children have been encouraged to add photographs of themselves to a display in the room that reflects how they are feeling each day, which has prompted a great deal of discussion amongst the group. We have then related these discussions to many of the interactions occurring amongst the children as they are developing the important skills of sharing, turn taking, negotiating and actively listening to one another, all fundamental skills to forming strong relationships built on trust and respect.
