Science

This week in Science:

Foundation and Year 1

Students were set the task of classifying a range of objects. Working in groups of 3-4, they were asked to group the objects based on their observable properties, and then regroup them a different way. We then sorted the objects in a whole class group.

It was interesting to see and hear the different ways students viewed and described the objects. We had some wonderful discussions about similarities and differences in the objects.

This fortnight Foundation, year 1 and Year 2 are investigating features of native birds in our area. We plan to be Citizen Scientists and record data about the number and species of birds we see. We will enter this into the Seek App (by iNaturalist).

Families are welcome to do this at home. It would be a great school holiday activity.

Years 2, 3/4 & 5/6

Students investigated how to make electricity by creating static electricity. It was fun to create an electrical charge on the surface of a balloon by rubbing it on your hair. Students tested a range of materials to see if they were attracted to the electrical charge on the balloon. Some students were even able to stick the balloon to themselves.
