Child Safety

The School Advisory Council is meeting tonight and part of the meeting will involve dicussing and reviewing the following policies;

  • Child Safety Policy
  • Child Safety Code of Conduct
  • Child Safety Risk Register
  • Visitors and Volunteers Policy
  • Parent Guardian Carer Code of Conduct

While these policies have existed for some time, they have been updated following the governance changes to Catholic schools in Melbourne. As you are probably aware all Catholic schools in Melbourne are governed by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd. Many policies are now consistent across all Catholic schools in Melbourne. Once reviewed by the School Advisory Council, the updated policies will be made available on the school website. Further detail will be shared in next week's newsletter.

Please note that is illegal to turn right on to Blackburn road when exiting Doon Ave during drop off and pick up time. Not only do you risk being fined, this also holds up traffic and is very dangerous as it is difficult to view traffic coming up Blackburn Road from High Street Road.

School Rules

During First Term teachers review and reinforce school and class rules with students. These are displayed in all classrooms and highlighted as needed by teachers. It is important that students understand these rules and that they are implemted consistently across the school. Our school rules and consequences for inappropriate behaviour are listed below. At St. Christopher's we believe that it is important to encourage children and reward good behaviour. However it is also important that students understand that there are consequences for inapproprate behaviour.

Consequences:

The current consequences for inappropriate behaviour are stated as:

  • First time:  Warning.
  • Second time:  Time out for 2 – 5 minutes (within own classroom)
  • Third time: Time out in another classroom for 5 – 10 minutes or during recess/lunchtime.
  • Fourth time:  Removal to the Principal’s office.
  • Severe Clause:   Removal from the situation (principal’s office) and completion of “Think Sheet”. Parents notified and appropriate consequences given.

Before School:

Parents please note that students can be dropped at school from 8:30am. A staff member will be available to supervise students on the basketball courts. Students are not to play on the adventure playground before school. The doors to the school open at 8:45am and students may enter the building to put their bag away. They should then make their way outside and play until the bell goes. The only exception to this is the Prep class. These students may stay in their classroom with Miss Calafiore. The bell will ring at 8:55am and students are expected to be at school by this time. The external doors to the school will be locked shortly after the bell goes. Students who arrive after this time must be dropped off at the office. They are not to be dropped in the playground and expected to make their own way to the office.

After School:

School finishes at 3:30pm every day. Parents may collect their children from the playground after school. Students who are waiting for their parents can wait at the adventure playground area where they will be supervised until 3:45pm. Any students that have not been collected by their parents at this time will be taken to the office and supervised until they are picked up. Students that make their own way home will have made arrangements with their parents regarding this. It is therefore important that these students follow these arrangements and make their way home immediately after school.
