Around The School

Year 12 Camp - A student perspective

G’day everyone,

The last time our cohort was able to embark on a school camp was way back in 2019, times when Covid was unheard of, Tim Paine was still the Australian cricket captain, and Karl hadn’t even discovered free styling yet. Now, finally after two and a half years, our year level was blessed with an unreal time at Morning Glory.

The day started with our walk to Woolies where we bought our food on a very strict budget for Monday night’s dinner, as well as breakfast and lunch the following day. It was interesting to see what budgeting techniques were used, especially with the golden advice from Mrs Brewis that, and I quote... “chocolate comes first and necessities second!”

After our little shopping spree, we made our way to Morning Glory. This moment of bliss was short-lived initially, as only half of the cohort actually made it to the camp due to navigational errors. A common theme among camps organized by Mr Cadd (sorry not sorry).

After a quick set up and a bite to eat, we spent the first part of the afternoon with Emily and Kirsty learning about positive relationships. Afterwards we found ourselves floating down the river (intentionally) on stand up paddle boards and other floatation devices, all the way down to the sandbar, where a very intense game of cricket took place. During this match, some would say Corso not only began his cricket career, but also ended it just as quickly.

That evening, the cohort got busy with din dins, shout out to Griff for putting up with Myers and I over a very small stove top. The masterchef session ended well with full bellies and Corso utterly unimpressed with our attempt at pasta (sorry champ). Shortly after a few of us hit up the river again for another float, accompanied by some interesting paddle board yoga from Donovan and Bacon as well. Later on that night, the Townrow games began. First up was a round of sardines, made incredibly hard by Rudy’s impeccable hiding ability. Followed by a very short game of 44 Home Base. Once everyone was settled back down at the camp, this is where the real fun began. After a brief explanation from Mr. Townrow we started a game of ‘Tom, Dick and Harry,’ where Scobes, April and Myers claimed victory as the three wise men.

Next up was CHICKEN EYES, this game was just as intense as the last, with Jaymi showing Hamo who the real chicken champion is. Our final game of the night was to go to bed and get some sleep. The next morning we all enjoyed a lovely, nutritious breakfast, while some opted for pancakes. The rest of the morning was spent with Kirsty and Emily finishing our healthy relationships program. Shortly after, we found ourselves having lunch, playing some volleyball and spike ball then finally packing up and heading back to school.

We would like to thank Ms Duncan for making this all possible, Mrs Brewis for the elite budgeting advice, Mr Cadd for finally dressing for the occasion and Mr Townrow for his fun games and absolute bangers, hit him up on his spotify playlist, @ctownrowxoxo.

All in all this camp was an absolute blast, however, not for the FAINT of heart.

Cheers Guys

Keep Australia Beautiful Awards

Moama Anglican Grammar is extremely proud to win an award and commendation in the ‘Keep Australia Beautiful NSW 2021 Sustainable Communities Awards’, announced on Saturday 5 March in Albury.

Students and staff put in a great deal of creativity, time and commitment to the two recognised activities and we are delighted that all their hard work has been acknowledged by the Awards. Our students awareness and respect of environmental sustainability and resource management is certainly growing and evolving!

Big congratulations to:

  • The Primary School and their ‘We Can Sort This Out’ program which won the School’s Achievement Award in its population category
  • Annabel Pickles and Neisha Davidson who were Highly Commended in the Young Legends Award for their ‘Give Back Day’ event.

Running nationally since 1990, these awards encompass projects and initiatives with a focus on environmental sustainability and resource management to reflect a growing awareness of the importance of community-led environmental action.

Ash Wednesday Services

It was wonderful to have the Secondary students together across our two Ash Wednesday services last week. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent and focuses on confession and prayer.  Students were given the opportunity to receive the ashes during the service.

"Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

Students in the primary school participated in a virtual Ash Wednesday Service coordinated by Mr Stuart Martin.

PDHPE News

It is all happening down at Moama Pool this fortnight. Students have been gearing up to compete in the Annual Moama Anglican Grammar Aquathon, keen to beat their personal best from the previous year and have the chance for their name to be recorded on the PDHPE Honour Board.

All week Year 7 and 10 students have been cheering on their classmates, focusing on those high elbows in the water, pacing their way up and down Blair Street and working out how hard it is to put socks on wet feet!

Next week we will see Year 8, 9 and 11 students tackle the same Aquathon challenge in their PDHPE lessons!

Good luck to all our Secondary Students completing their Aquathons.

Year 3 Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

Even during COVID times the students continue to learn about Paddock-to-Plate of seasonal delights

Year 3 Stephanie Alexander class prepared a yummy Summer Greek salad, learning great knife skills with Mrs Pinson. They enjoyed sharing stories while eating together in their real life café style dining room.

Science around the school

Year 5A cleverly identifying specific senior laboratory equipment, and discerning each piece's use.

The Year 9 Forensic Science class were trialling different chemical methods used to make fingerprints visible this week. They applied black graphite powder to some of the prints and compared them to the results they achieved using  the opti-white fingerprint powder.

Mrs Paul's Year 8 STEM  class students have been designing catapults as part of their STEM challenge. They launched marshmallows and critically analysed the launch pattern and the distance

Students thawed straws of frozen bull semen and viewed it under the microscope this week as part of a very interesting science lesson. They also enjoyed eating the ice cream we made when we were investigating which breeds of cows produce the most suitable milk for specific markets.

They were given the opportunity to see inside the NSW Parliament buildings and gain an understanding of the processes of legislation being passed within NSW.

Rebecca Douglas donates to Wigs4Kids

Hi everyone! My name is Rebecca Douglas. I am a Year 11 at Moama Anglican Grammar and I am donating my hair on the 4th of April. I am donating my hair to Wigs 4 Kids, which is an organisation that provides real-hair wigs for free to children who have lost their hair due to cancer. I am having small money jars placed at Student Services, the Reception and the Canteen to help raise money. However, if you cannot come to school, here is a link to donate via my profile on the website.
