Senior School Sport

Mr Jamie Cook

As we conclude Term 3, I am delighted to say that the College is in a great position in preparation for Term 4 MCS Summer Sports. All teams have been selected and students will be notified in the coming days of their Term 4 MCS selections.

A reminder as we move into Term 4 Summer Sports that all students will be required to supply their College hat and water bottle for Thursday sport. Sunscreen will be provided to students who request it as we aim to create awareness and protection against the summer weather.

Term 4 Summer Sports selections have now closed with students being asked to complete their selection over the last two weeks of school. Daily Notice and email reminders were given to allow students sufficient time to complete this simple task.

At the time of writing this Newsletter, the College Leadership are discussing what the sport landscape will look like in Term 4, as MCS schools will be advised on how basketball and cricket can run under the current health guidelines. As mentioned in previous newsletters, any new decisions which change the Colleges involvement in MCS or other sporting competitions will be conveyed to the St Gregory’s community swiftly.

Year 12 Co-Curricular Assembly

Last Friday Year 12 began their first of many end of school assemblies and meetings. I had the pleasure of hosting the Year 12 Co-Curricular Assembly and acknowledging the students’ efforts in their final year of the College.

I am pleased to announce that our 2020 College Sportsman of the Year is Cody Salter.

Cody represented the College in MCS Football 2nd Grade, Triathlon teams and individual events, was selected into the NSW All Schools Triathlon team, received 3 awards from his College Coaches, was nominated for the 2020 Olympic Change Maker Award and more importantly, is an excellent role model for younger students at the College.

I am also pleased to announce the 2020 College All-Rounder of the Year. The recipient

Sanjiv Weerasingham

of the All Rounder award must participate in other co-curricular pursuits such as band, public speaking, show team and Marist Connect. This year’s recipient ticked all the boxes. He represented the College in MCS Football and Cricket. He participated in public speaking events, the College Band and was a member of this year’s Marist Connect. He also was named in the 2020 Marist Cricket team.

Congratulations to Sanjiv Weerasingham.

MCS Summer Sport Teams

All Summer MCS teams should be finalised and teams will be acknowledged in the next College Newsletter. Thank you to all students who trialled and if selected, all the best for the upcoming season.

House Cup

It is that time of the year again when our College sport and co-curricular activities roll over to another year. Even with COVID-19 severely hindering our participation in so many sports and activities, the College will finalise individual and House points so we can acknowledge students for their efforts throughout the year.

If parents can log onto their child’s Sentral portal and check to see if their Co-curricular activities are accurate for this current calendar year. If there are any errors or oversights, please contact the College to have this changed before the end of year assemblies.
