Reflecting on 2020 and our extraordinary year at BEPS, I am extremely proud to be a part of a school community that has displayed great optimism, resilience and kindness during times of uncertainty.
LEARN.
Thank you to everyone for embracing change and enabling new ways of learning, communicating and working together to support both on-site and remote learning. Our students quickly adapted to learning via Zoom, increasing their independence, overcoming technical challenges and always displayed pride in their learning, sharing many work samples on Google Classroom and SeeSaw. Our partnerships with parents and carers strengthened during the year as we all worked together to navigate an uncertain journey and overcame many challenges faced by students, staff and parents. Thank you to everyone for contributing to such a memorable year of school. Through regular communication and daily Zoom sessions, staff expressed they were able to learn more about the children and their families and felt welcomed into your homes to run virtual classrooms.
CREATE.
This year the students and staff have found unique ways to create many fond memories, ensuring the participation in special events and activities at BEPS, including the Year 3&4 ‘In School’ camp experience, BEPS Virtual Art Show, Year 6 Graduation and online kinder transition sessions. Students have explored ideas and provided feedback for teachers to create a positive climate for learning. There have been opportunities for authentic student voice forums, including exit slips, being involved in curriculum planning and designing learning space ideas for our capital works project. Our online clubs are another example of student voice and choice, where students suggested online clubs during remote learning. These clubs proved to be a huge hit across Foundation to Year 6.
INSPIRE.
The dedication, positivity and kindness shown by our school community throughout this year has been inspiring. Our students have continued to be inclusive, display our school values and greet others daily with a friendly smile. We have celebrated World Teacher’s Day, Principal Appreciation Day, sent thank-you messages to our front line workers and had two members of our school, Royce and Zia share flowers and herbs with their neighbourhood to brighten up their day during lock down.
Thank-you BEPS for an amazing year! I look forward to seeing you all learn, create and inspire in 2021.
Lastly, goodbye to our Year 6 students heading off to high school next year, remember to be your wonderful self, be brave and show kindness.
