M I P S News

Like many other areas within the school, Term 3 has presented challenges for us in delivering our normal pathways programs, but then again, there’s been nothing normal about this year!

With the Year 12’s working remotely for virtually all of Term 3, Sue-Anne and I were still able to complete Year 12 VCE and VCAL pathways interviews. This provided students with a flexible plan about post-school options, which is important every year, but even more so as many students will be facing a very different employment and education landscape than the one they were anticipating at the beginning of the year.

Our goal is to ensure that every Year 12 student leaves to a positive destination. By the end of this term, over 120 Year 12’s will have completed applications for University and TAFE. We anticipate more students will choose TAFE courses next year given the tight employment market ahead. The remaining 60 students have well established plans which include apprenticeships, traineeships and direct employment.

As part of the Ballarat High School pathways program, we will continue to provide guidance to students for 6 months after they have exited the school, supporting and linking them with employment, education and training providers.

We are pleased to share some good news:

  • James Archibald - is undertaking a School Based Apprenticeship as an Electrician with Switched Electrical
  • Abby Ward - is undertaking a School Based Apprenticeship as a Tiler

Congratulations and best wishes to these students.
