SCHOOL CONCERT

This term, a great deal of energy will be focussed on preparation for our annual school concert, to be held on Wednesday 19 September at the Palais Theatre, St Kilda.

Our concert is a whole school production, where all students have the opportunity to ‘shine’ on a big stage.  Over the years, as our school has grown, so has the need for a venue that will accommodate us all.  After using local halls and then progressing to the Robert Blackwood Hall, we have in recent years moved to a venue the size of the Palais to comfortably fit all who would like to attend. The school did look at the viability of other venues, but the Palais has proven to be the most appropriate in terms of size, cost and proximity.

Tickets are now available from Ticketmaster or the box office. They are $37, the same as last year. Costs are kept to a minimum, with our fantastic Chris Trotter weaving her magic and providing most of the costumes and props from school resources she has built up over the years.

Please follow the link below to book your tickets. We are aiming to sell at least 600 tickets and we are well on the way to achieving that, having sold 500 already!

Please remember, students sit with their class and do not require a ticket.

We are looking forward to a great night.

ENROLMENT

As I said last week, it is that time of the year again when we begin planning for 2019.

If you have a neighbour or a friend in our zone and they have not yet submitted their enrolment forms, please ask them to come to the office as soon as possible to collect a booklet.

Our next tour is on Wednesday 29 August at 9:30am.

If you are moving schools or houses, can you please put this in writing and send it to the office so we can plan our staffing for next year.

SCHOOL DISCO

A huge thanks to Liz Blutman for her work organising our second school disco.

It was a great success and everyone had a fantastic time.

We would also like to thank the volunteers who helped on the night. It was amazing that, in the end, we had to turn volunteers away, otherwise we may have had as many parents as students.

Now we would now like to hear from Year 3-6 parents who would be able to take over the running of this event for 2019.

Remember, many hands make light work, and if we could get 2 or 3 helpers from the junior grades and 2 or 3 from the senior grades, Liz would love to arrange a time to do a handover while it is fresh in our minds.

Please leave your name at the office if you are willing to help.

ATHLETIC SPORTS

Next Wednesday August 15, over 50 students will represent Murrumbeena Primary School at the Bentleigh District Athletics.

These will be held at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve. We wish them all well and hope they have a fantastic day. Thanks to Tracy Nelson and all of the staff who have given up their time to assist with training, and to the students who have worked hard to get to this level.

STUDENT LED CONFERENCES

Bookings will open this week on Compass for this year’s student-led conferences which will be held on Tuesday 28 August from 3:45 -8:15.

Please keep the date free. A news feed will be sent out as soon as bookings open.

Sessions will be in 1 hour blocks, so students will have the opportunity to showcase their work, both in the classroom as well as in specialist areas.

Parents and students will be given a passport, which they will collect from their class. They will be asked to mark off the places they visit as they move around the school.

In each hour block, half of the group booked in will start in the classroom and half will be asked to go to specialist areas first and then they will swap over.

We hope this gives parents and students an opportunity to see all of the curriculum areas that are offered at Murrumbeena.

I would like to thank Claire Van Loon, our PYP Coordinator for her work in this area.

PARENT OPINION SURVEY

There is still time to complete the annual Parent Opinion Survey, if you received the letter with the link in the mail.

It would greatly appreciated if we could achieve an 80% response rate. These surveys provide us with valuable feedback as to what we are doing well and where improvements can be made.
