Environmental Corner
As this is the last newsletter for the term and we are now is spring I thought I would share some environmental tips in regard to gardening. There are many things you can do to have a greener garden such as:
Reuse and Recycle Items
Using recycled materials is a great way to go green. Check out www.ebay.com.au or gumtree.com.au for baths and buckets, clay pipes and old scaffolding boards that can be put to good use in the garden e.g. using a bucket for a flower pot.
Choose Eco Materials
Green materials sourced and made by the local community feature strongly in sustainable gardens. Choosing them helps to reduce your carbon footprint as they have few kilometres attached, plus most of them use little or no cement, the production of which accounts for more than five per cent of the world’s carbon emissions.
Check out Gardening Australia
Gardening Australia has a range of environmental tips that you can utilise in the garden that are free. You can check out their fact sheets on the link below:

An example of one of the fact sheets is:
Sophie’s Organic Garden:
In this episode Sophie shares her tips on how to make your garden organic. The link is:

Go Native
Indigenous plants for an area are adapted to the climate and soil conditions so they tend to need minimal watering. Plus you have the added bonus they attract native fauna. Sustainable Gardening Australia outlines information about Indigenous plants on the following link:

I hope the tips above help you with creating a sustainable and environmentally friendly garden.
