From the Principal Team

Well done and thank you to our entire community for the way you have managed term 3.  I am so proud of our students and staff.  I am very grateful for all that our parents and carers are doing.

To help parents and carers build family resilience in these difficult times, the Department of Education and Training is presenting a free webinar by renowned child psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg.  The webinar, 15th September, will provide some practical skills, knowledge and strategies for managing life in lockdown and in the period of flexible and remote learning.

You will have heard in the media discussion around whether some students would benefit from repeating a year due to the disruptions. Although schools have made changes to the curriculum provided, focusing on the key skills and knowledge required for students as they continue to the next year level, please be assured that all students will be supported to catch up as required. If you are concerned or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me discuss.

We wish all families a safe and relaxing term break and look forward to welcoming our wonderful students back during term 4 when conditions allow.

Mid Year Awards

Our school community normally gathers to recognise the hard work and achievements of our students with the presentation of awards and certificates.

The impact of COVID-19 and remote learning means that the presentation of awards in 2020 looks different from previous years.

Certificates were mailed home last week and presented virtually via Year Level Assemblies.  Congratulations to those students who received awards.

Alpine School

We are pleased to advise that Glen Eira College have been allocated places for 3 boys and  3 girls at the Gnurad Gundidj Campus of the School for Student Leadership in Term 4, 2021. This campus is part of the School of Student Leadership, which is part of the Department of Education. The school offers a fully residential program for one school term with accommodation for up to 45 students in a purpose-built facility.  This program is open to students who will be in Year 9 in 2021.

At the school, students are responsible for helping maintain the school, organizing rosters, for doing various jobs around the school and generally controlling the nature of their home and place of learning.

The Outdoor Program is a very special part of the School for Student Leadership experience. It is also an area that causes apprehension in students who have little experience in outdoor adventure. It is important that all students understand the program is designed in such a way that every able-bodied student will be able to complete all parts of it. Whilst fitter students will find the going easier, even those who have done no hiking and minimal running should feel confident that they would be able to cope.

Applications will be sought from current Year 8 students during Term 1 2021. If you would like more information, please make time to look through the campus website: http://www.gnurad-gundidj.vic.edu.au/
