Join us!

The Glen Eira College Parents Association (GECPA) is a group of parents and carers who support the school’s community with events, news, and friendships. All GEC parents and guardians are welcome to attend our meetings – a great chance to meet some school families. Our monthly meetings are friendly and informal, and your level of involvement is up to you. If you are interested in joining GECPA or are not already receiving our emails, please email us.

To join in the Glen Eira College Parents Association online meetings via Skype – please send us an email for an online invitation  gecpa@gec.vic.edu.au

Our next meeting is on Saturday 17th Oct 11am .

Second hand uniform shop

The uniform stall is a helpful service for families. Please donate your unwanted uniform items when onsite schooling resumes. Kindly ensure that all items are in reasonable condition and have been washed and dried before you bring them in. Items can be left at the school office for donation when restrictions allow parents to be on site.

We thank you for your generosity.

Who We Are?

We are members of GECPA and these are our stories…

Independent woman, as what other people think of me.
I have two lovely angels - my eldest, Nicole is currently at year 9 in GEC and my youngest still at primary.
I am a working mum and currently employed as an Electrical Estimator in a construction firm. I am very passionate about things that I am interested in and focus on achieving accomplishments for my own growth. I find difficult situations as opportunities to grow rather than be afraid of it.
It makes me feel better when I participate as a volunteer in the community, especially when I am able to connect with others' ideas.
I love spring; I see it as a time to spend more time in the garden. Cooking is not my passion but using certain herbs that I grow by myself encourages me. Staying inside the house because of ISO is not unusual as I prefer to spend my time with the kids watching movies.

My name is Nicole Bishop. I live with my husband and two sons in Glen Huntly and we are new to Glen Eira College. My older son is in Grade 7 and his younger brother is three years away from joining him at GEC. I am happy that I joined the Parents Association. I wanted to support the school in whatever way I could. What I didn’t anticipate was thoroughly enjoying the meetings, relishing the social interaction in the group, and getting to know so many other parents across almost all grade levels. And, I love the close connections the group has formed – maybe because of the enforced lockdown. I would heartily recommend joining the GECPA.
Both my husband and I were born overseas. I’m from South Africa and he is from England.  Both our boys were born here in Melbourne. I moved to Melbourne almost 20 years ago and think Melbourne deserves to be regarded as one of the world’s most liveable cities. I work at the Department of Education and Training within the Higher Education and Skills portfolio and manage two annual, large-scale survey programs. I enjoy my job. It’s diverse and challenging.
I’m finding remote and flexible learning 2.0 a bit easier this time around. The first period of remote learning involved tears and tantrums – mainly me!  I am looking forward to catching up with family in Queensland and our friends, when it is safe to do so. And, maybe by the time we emerge from this lockdown, I will have completed all the jobs I planned to do in March.

Have Your Say on Climate Action in Glen Eira

Earlier this year, Glen Eira City Council declared a climate emergency. We are now developing an Environmental Sustainability Strategy (ESS) 2021-2025 that sets out how we will support our community to cut their carbon footprint and live more sustainably.

We invite primary and secondary school students and Early Learning Centres in Glen Eira to submit a two-minute video that tells us what support schools and young people need to be more sustainable.

Here are some ideas on how Council can support sustainability in schools:

  • Free solar assessments for schools to identify if solar panels are right for you
  • A sustainable schools incursion program
  • Funding assistance to set up food gardens
  • Subsidised composting systems
  • Help in setting up a Youth Climate Action Network
  • Help in setting up pollinator observatories to monitor native pollinating insects
  • Funding assistance to host climate action movie nights.

The invitation with instructions on how to submit a video will be sent on Monday 26 October. Video submissions are due on Sunday 11 November. The videos may be on behalf of a school, individual students or groups of students. They may be taken at a school or home learning environment.

For more information, contact Council's Sustainability Team on 9524 3333.
