Sports

Term Three has begun in a whirl of sports, assessments and excitement as we have celebrated birthdays. The Winter Season of sport has been well-appreciated by the girls, with many competing in hockey, football, netball and volleyball. Still others are maintaining a healthy routine of attending the gym in town and going for jogs around campus.

In a year where normal events, concerts and outings have been cancelled or modified, there was much excitement for the girls with Netball Tournament running last Wednesday. Many girls won matches and were able to connect with students from other schools and districts. Congratulations to the 12 Breaksea girls who competed.

Last weekend, Abby O’Neill and Isabelle Plowman travelled to Perth with the hockey team to compete in the Buchanan Cup. Mikayla de Nobrega, our Gap Assistant, also attended the event and they arrived home on Monday night exhausted but very excited to have played so well.

Academic Performance

It has been encouraging to see how many girls have taken the time to reflect on their academic performance in Semester One and set new goals for this semester. We have particularly seen the Year Ten girls develop a stronger work ethic and begin to utilise the wonderful resources boarding can offer to assist them in their studies. In the next weeks, we will be running some study skills sessions specifically for each year group and beginning with Year Ten. They have been finalising their subjects for 2021 and the discussions amongst staff and students has allowed the girls to focus on their goals and future aspirations.

The senior girls have also had many assessments this term, with the last two weeks particularly tiring for the girls. They have had many investigations to complete and it has been good to see them balancing academic time and their down time.

Happy Birthday

A couple of weeks ago we celebrated the 19th birthday of our wonderful Gap Assistant, Mikayla de Nobrega. She is a fabulous asset to the Breaksea House and loves to spend time with the girls and support them. So it was fun to celebrate and the girls presented her with a Koala Oodie, a cosy reminder of her time in Albany. Yummy chocolate cake was enjoyed by all.

Senior Fun

Every second Friday night, the girls of Breaksea join with the Eclipse boys for dinner and the fire pit. This has become a highlight for the girls and last time there were some yummy S’mores made and enjoyed by the fire. We are planning for a girls dinner in town in the next few weeks, after our picnic ideas were rained out.
