Endeavour House News

This term has been very different to last term when we were hardly able to leave the school grounds. It has been very busy in comparison with most Endeavour girls going out to sport and other out of school activities. The girls in Endeavour take part in soccer, hockey, netball, football, Muay Thai, horse riding, gymnastics, Army Cadets, Guides and synchronised swimming, such diverse interests in this group of busy girls.

A group of our girls have been enjoying going to Body Care gym on Thursdays for an exercise bike class called Sprint. This is a great opportunity to get fit with lots of fun and laughter. Thank you to Ms Goodgame for attending with them.

As usual there has been an array of craft activities with the donated sewing machine being quite a hit. Scrunchies and bunting have been the most popular items to sew. If you have unwanted fabric or sewing accessories that we could utilize, we would appreciate donations of these items.

Prep

We have been working hard in Endeavour to improve the boarders use of prep time. We have a term planner whiteboard with all the assessments that are coming up noted so that we all know what is due. This term we have Mr Josh Carson coming in to Endeavour every Thursday night to work with our girls on Mathematics. Quite a few of our Year Eight girls are taking advantage of this extra help. Miss Hearle is in the library with the Year Eight group on Wednesday nights and can also help in any areas your daughter requires.  Our Year Seven girls go to prep with Mr Goggins in the library on a Monday night and they also enjoy Tuesday nights when Ms Simpson attends prep.  The boarding prep timetable can be found on MyGSG here.

Some girls are also taking advantage of the after school Academic Support on offer. I am so pleased with the Year Seven girls who are going along to the homework class every Monday. The academic support timetable is also available on MyGSG here, if you would like to encourage your daughter to attend, this is a great opportunity to get extra assistance from teachers at school.

Survey

We are always interested in our boarders' wellbeing and this week I sent them a little email to ask if they are managing their schoolwork, friendships, getting enough exercise, sleeping and eating well. If there are any concerns in your daughter’s response, I will let you know. There is no doubt in Endeavour that they are all getting the required amount of exercise. In our meetings we often discuss wellbeing (sometimes an eyeroll can be detected), this week we discussed this quote:

“Your circle should want to see you win. Your circle should clap loudly when you have good news. If not, get a new circle.”

We talk a lot about friendships and what makes a healthy friendship and that it’s okay for friendships to change. I’m certainly not an expert in teen friendships, however I hope that by having these conversations we can be honest about issues that pop up and discuss them openly.

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to Brianna Cunningham, her birthday was in the last week of last term. This month we have had India King, Millie Plowman and Dannielle Frost all celebrate their birthdays at home with Chelsea Evans and Tyla Climie having birthdays coming up next week.

A reminder to please support Brianna Cunningham’s ‘Care Bags’ if you are able, particularly for children aged one to 12 years.  Donations to Endeavour House by Friday please.

Have a restful weekend.

Leaders Report

On Sunday night, the Boarding Quiz Night was held. There was great food and events like a Mr Squiggle and a round of Pictionary. Teams had a lot of fun drawing on the tables and eating yummy food. Each round had a theme and each team seemed to have a great time. At the end of the night the light blue team won.

In Week Nine boarding is also holding a Boarding’s Got Talent. Each boarding house gets to perform something in front of the panel of judges, we are really looking for forward to it and will hopefully win.

Introducing Miss Martin

I have had the absolute pleasure of being warmly welcomed into Endeavour in Term Three. I am an Albany born and raised girl who recently came back to town this year after studying Mental Health and Police Studies up in Perth and have been to fortunate to have this opportunity offered to me on returning home. My favourite part of my time in the house by far has been getting to know all the girls personally, with their interest, hobbies and of course family and friends being the main topic of all their conversations. This is closely followed by seeing all the girls come together as one big Endeavour family, sharing jokes, laughter and of course the daily singing and dancing! It is so important to me to create a safe and comforting environment for the girls whilst they are away from home as I understand that at times it can be a little hard, and ensure they are feeling as at home and as happy as possible.

If any parents would like to email me or get in touch, please feel free to share any of my details as I would be more than happy to have a chat.

Thank you and enjoy your long weekend!
