Anchorage House News

This term has seen the Anchorage boys getting stuck into their studies, their sport and quite a bit of energetic down time as well.

This term we welcomed Berkley Somerscales to our house.  Berkley has come over from South Australia and has fit in with the group immediately.

The Year Eight boys are making great use of the lounge area in their wing and were pretty happy to see a new big screen TV this week.  At times this area gets a workout with an X-box or simply boys chilling out on their phones. The Year Nine boys have also enjoyed connecting their X-box in the new lounge area down their wing.  We now have an entertainment unit and are awaiting new sound bars throughout and an X-box, which will complement the Apple TV units on all three TVs.  We discussed the importance of gratitude and the boys decided to send a letter to the IT team, thanking them for upgrading our lounge spaces.  Fletcher Cugley wrote a letter and all the boys signed it.  I know this was well received by the IT team.

We’ve experienced some pretty wild weather in recent weeks, which has largely meant the boys have needed to stay indoors more than usual.  Recreation has included an opportunistic dash to the river for fishing and ten pin bowling but some outside fun can be had too if you have the imagination.  A temporary lake formed on the oval behind us and you can see by the photos that was a good excuse to burn off some energy for some of the boys with some inland surfing.

This week has been a big one for assessments.  Year Nine students had an English essay, Mathematics test, Science test and a HASS test, while Year Eight students had a Mathematics and Science tests with a HASS test next week.  Efforts during prep have been really quite good and many boys have utilised the help of our tutors, which is an important part of the support available to them.  Daniel Fisher, Brendan Quick, Henry Egerton-Warburton, Fletcher Cugley and Berkley Somerscales have used Mr Carson for Mathematics help while Jed Kowald and Pierce Newman have used him for help with Science.  Zavier Van Den Brand and Bailey Peacock have spent some time studying together and helping each other along and Riley Hitsert, Marcus Leckie, Steven Wiech, Koby Hams regularly catch up and work on their assessments and homework together.  Others prefer the quiet of their own room and have been steadily getting things done.  It’s interesting to see how much this varies as some boys tend to get distracted in their own rooms and our discussions on how to study often come back to self-discipline.

Birthdays

Term Three birthdays were celebrated in the usual fashion in Anchorage House – singing in full voice and sharing cake. This term, we say happy birthday to Marcus Leckie. Daniel Barrett-Lennard celebrated his birthday in the school holidays and Kaden Patterson will also celebrate his birthday on the coming weekend with his family.

All the best for the Closed Weekend.

Leaders Report

After returning from Term Two holidays most of the Anchorage boys have been playing sport such as footy, soccer and hockey. It has been good to be back and the term is going fast. At the start of the term the Anchorage House welcomed a new Year Nine, Berkley Somerscales who has moved here from South Australia.  Recently there has been lots of rain and cold weather which has lead to lots of big puddles everywhere. Last Sunday we had the Boarding Quiz Night which was entertaining and fun. We also had the option of going to ten pin bowling on Sunday which was good fun.

Coming up for the second half of the term we have Boarding's Got Talent in Week Nine so if anyone has a good idea mention it to your Head of House. I hope everyone enjoys their long weekend.
