From the Boarding Captains

On Sunday night, we had the annual Boarding Quiz Night. It was an eventful night with lots of amazing prizes. It was a great opportunity for the junior and senior students to bond and get to know each other a little better. Thanks to Mrs Franzinelli and Mr Goggins for organising an entertaining night.

Every second Friday night, both senior houses gather out the back of Eclipse House around the fire pit. This is lots of fun and a great opportunity for the senior boarders to spend time together before the Year Twelve students leave next term.

For the Year Twelve students only having a few weeks left in boarding, we are taking the time to enjoy our last boarding moments. I hope everyone has a safe and happy long weekend.

On Friday Week One, Jessica Dolan and I met up with Mr Goggins to discuss the revegetation programme that we hope to put in place just past the boardwalk on the way to the fish traps. There were a further four people who met up that afternoon, including people from the Oyster Harbour Catchment Group, a Noongar elder and two men from the City of Albany Council.

The first discussion point was to work out where the revegetation would take place, how we would see it done in the future and the size of the initial planting. The final verdict was that there would be 100-200 trees in the initial stage, where they would be planted in a small area between the waters edge and the footpath directly after the boardwalk. All trees and shrubs that will be planted will be native plants that are believed to have been present in that area in the past.

The revegetation was decided to be best done in stages, as too many trees would be too hard to manage, as well as an increasingly large workload that would be expected. One of the main focuses on this practice will be maintaining and protecting this revegetation, as it is a privilege to be given the opportunity to be able to make a difference and leave behind a positive mark on the environment for future years to nurture and grow upon.

As this will be a very large workload to complete, all boarders are more than welcome, and encouraged, to participate in this event. There has been no specific date set to when the plants will need to be planted, as there is still planning left to make it happen. Thank you for the support and we hope to see lots of peers there to help with this special opportunity.
