ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS’ REPORT

Paul Dawson, Bradley Headlam &  Julie Andrews

Assistant Principals

Remote learning - habits, attendance, etc.

We know that students have started their remote learning with good attendance and learning habits. Punctuality to classes and communicating with the teachers is important to make the most of classes. It is the same for the online classroom - arrive on time and seek clarification and help by asking teachers and peers. Students need to make sure that they submit the work required to show the teacher their understanding and progress in the topic. Keep up the good work as we move through the remote learning period - three weeks to go.

During the remote learning period it is important to keep up with your studies but maybe you have some extra time to fill. You can create your own learning plan according to your interests.

  • Find a recipe to cook and share with the family
  • Read…Read…Read
  • Create a report/PowerPoint/video of an area of interest
  • Plant seeds or bulbs for the garden
  • Learn a new skill – for example, knitting, crochet, sewing, card making, creating videos/podcasts
  • Make a present for someone
  • Improve your fitness
  • Doing puzzles – crosswords, wordsearch, Sudoku, patience, jigsaws, etc.

The expectation is that during this remote learning time we do not let our brains forget about learning. Learning can take many forms but you need to be active and persistent; and be proud of the things you can do. We would like to see any of your new skills or projects that you have developed during this time.

Subject selection is past. What needs to happen now that the site is closed.

SUBJECT SELECTION

Subject selections are just about finalised with the Year 8, 9 and 10's having completed  their selections.  It was pleasing to see so many parents being able to support their children in making their selections. The school sees the assistance of parents as being vitally important in ensuring that your son or daughter makes choices that will best suit their educational needs.  Parents have an intimate knowledge of their children and play an important guiding role during this time. Students should now have a clearer direction on their course for next year and an extra motivation to ensure that they are at North Geelong Secondary College and in the next year level.  These selections are currently being blocked to ensure as many students as possible receive their first options and students will be notified once this task has been completed.

School policies

School policies are available for viewing on the school website, https://ngsc.vic.edu.au/downloads/, in your enrolment pack, in the student planner or available from the NGSC Administration Office.

In the coming weeks, some of the existing school policies on the NGSC website will be replaced with updated versions and there will be some new policies. Please check the policy information as necessary for you and your child’s engagement with the school. This is particularly important for Health and Medical concerns.
