Systems Engineering

What is the subject about?

In Systems Engineering, students will have an opportunity to learn about the science and technology of mechanical and electronic systems in a hands-on capacity. Students will investigate how these systems work. Students will employ a design thinking approach to investigate problems, generate solutions and to construct devices using a range of manufacturing techniques. They will have the opportunity to use a range of hand tools, including soldering equipment, and learning about advanced manufacturing techniques such as computer-aided design and 3D printing.

Students will design and develop their own mechanical and/or electromechanical systems such as electric/solar car, boat, wind generator and intruder alarms. Students will get a change to build Arduino-based projects and will work with MRobot and Lego EV3 to design and build projects.

• Apply the systems engineering process to:

– identify and document the problem, need, opportunity or situation

– research, design and plan the operational integrated and controlled system

• Production work to create a mechanical or electro-mechanical system.
• Practical demonstrations
• An oral presentation.
