From the Principal

As we settle into Term 2, we have a range of extra-curricular activities and camps running for our students. Many have been involved in sporting activities and our Volleyball teams have been competing and fundraising for end of year tournaments.

Our Music students had a great experience in South Australia at the Generations of Jazz competition and while they had to wade through mud while moving between venues during the competition they had a great time. Please enjoy the article in this issue. A big thanks to our music team for the time they give up to provide opportunities for our students.

As you are reading this article, Angella Cappelli and I are in Italy, Rome, to collect our students that have been on exchange. I look forward to seeing them overseas and hear how their experience is going. During our time in Rome, I am meeting with the Principal of the Francesco Vivona school to work towards formalising the Sister School relationship and set up an ongoing exchange program for our 2 schools. I look forward to reading an article in an upcoming newsletter about the experience.

Our Year 10 students are heading off for their Work Experience program this week. Thanks to our families for their support in securing placements in roles that fit with their desired career paths. These opportunities not only provide valuable experiences but also build resumes as a stepping stone for potential part-time employment. I am excited to witness the diverse range of placements they have chosen and in particular pleased by a large number of students thinking about teaching as a career path. I extend my appreciation to our families and local businesses that generously host our students and assist them to develop a wide array of skills.

Many of our Year 9 students are participating in our City School Program this week. During the program they are given a greater sense of agency over their learning and develop their own research tasks to investigate. I am confident that they will also enjoy their time in the city.

In the last newsletter I gave notice about our upcoming Course Expo in Week 6. In this issue you will find more information to assist in preparing for selecting subjects for 2024.

It is great to see the 2 Friends of Northcote Events that are currently being organised. There are still tickets available for our Movie Night and I hope that families take up the opportunity to meet other families from our school and support our Friends of Northcote team. If you are unable to make the movie please see information about our upcoming Talkfest event later this term.

While I am disappointed I am unable to attend events locally this week, I look forward to seeing you at the Course Expo or the Talkfest later this term.
