Story and Art: Part 1

My Two Blankets: The Story

On Thursday morning, the whole school went to the drama room to listen to a story called My Two Blankets, to learn about other people's cultures and feelings when they are new to a country. The little girl in the story felt scared and nervous because she couldn't speak English. She found a girl in the park who taught her different words, and some were hard, and some were easy. The girl felt warm inside because she had a friend to speak to.

I read the story in Croatian, and Ms Feddersen and Ilion's mum read in French and Albanian. My brother, Matej, Grace, Noah and Ilion read the story in English so everyone could understand what we were saying.

I loved doing this because I love reading to children, and it makes me feel warm inside and inspires others to step up and not to be nervous. It felt great reading in my home language, because I don't read a lot of Croatian in my life, and it allowed me to read in my language. I felt proud of myself and Croatia.

Some of my family are in Croatia and would love to see me read in Croatian.
