Performing Arts

As we draw to the end of the term we give thanks for the efforts of our staff and students this term. It's been a busy and exciting term that has seen the Choirs merge, new ensembles formed, and a new teacher from Creative Music joining the team.

Creative Music in Schools

We welcome Sebastian, who is teaching guitar, singing, drums and keyboards, to the team. We are taking enrolments now for Term 2, and any forms handed in to the Performing Arts Office before the end of the term attract a 10% discount for next term's fees.

Here is a reflection on the Creative Music Program, written by two sisters both taking lessons:

The creative music program, otherwise known as CMS, is an individual program where you can pursue your passion for music whether it be singing, playing the piano, drums, or guitar. I (Angela) take singing lessons, and my experience while doing the lessons has influenced me to learn to improve my singing in different ways such as using vocal techniques and warm-ups while still being supported by my singing teacher. The Creative Music in Schools program also includes a variety of instruments, including the piano, which I (Emily) learn. I started learning in Year 7 as I was given the opportunity to join this program as part of my induction at the College. I started not even being able to identify the keys on the piano to read pages of musical notes successfully, and now I can read and play piano music. The CMS program has allowed us to pursue our passion for music during school hours and actively be able to practice and enjoy our time in doing so.

Term 2

Ensembles and Creative Music lessons recommence in Week 1, and we are working toward a number of performances, including the Showcase concerts we hold each semester.

For Semester 1 the dates are:

Tech Rehearsal/Matinee to primary school students: Wednesday 17th May periods 2-3

Evening Showcase to friends and family: Thursday 18 May, 7-8pm.

Both performances will take place in the O'Neill Auditorium, and are free of charge.

And finally we thank Dani Barbar, the leader of Senior Rock Band, for this image accompanying this article. It's part of a suite of images for one of the boards in our corridor where students can find information about our ensembles, lessons, student leaders, and staff.

We wish everyone a happy term break!
