Uniform Update

As we approach the colder part of the year, we remind all parents and students that winter uniform is to be worn in Term 2 and the following expectations apply:

Students should wear either the school skirt or the school pants.

Students are able to wear either blue tights or long white socks with their winter skirt.

Hoodies are not part of the uniform and are not to be worn eg not worn under the PE uniform. This also applies to long sleeve t-shirts etc. under the polo top.

PE uniform should only be worn on timetabled PE classes and is not be worn if students do not study PE.

We remind all families that all of the uniform needs to organised and ready for the beginning of Term 2 - Wednesday 27 April. Noone, the uniform supplier will have their shop open at school during the holidays on both Wednesday and Friday and families may also attend the store in Hoppers Crossing for their uniform.

Wellbeing Update

In Term 1 we introduced the PULSE program that allows all students a 60-second check in each week to see how they are feeling and tracking over the course of the year.

Homeroom teachers and Year Level Leaders monitor this data closely to see if any students raise any concerns that may need some follow up. In later editions of the Marian News, we will give families an insight into what the data is telling us about the community and its wellbeing.

Process for Interactions within the Community

At different times over the course of the year with over 950 individual as members of our community we sometimes witness negative interactions.

With this in mind if a negative interaction between students does occurs we follow a consistent process as indicated below:

We ask each student involved to identify their version of the interaction
Students are given a period of time out so follow up can occur with those involved. This may include other members of the community.
Families are involved in the re-entry process to ensure that everyone is aware of the issues and that the expectations are revisited and restated for all concerned.
Situations are then monitored to ensure that concerns have been resolved for all parties involved.

Visit from the Community Police on Tuesday 28th March

On Tuesday 28 March, the Community Police Proactive Unit visited and spoke to our Years 7-10 students about the work that they do and why it is important for them to build positive relationships with schools and young members of our community.

They want to continue this work with us and other schools in the Brimbank area over the course of the year and will return in Terms 2-4 to chat to our students about issues such as vaping and expectations of behaviour in the community.

These visits will be organised during Pastoral Care or Wellbeing lessons and we look forward to building this relationship that supports the important areas of wellbeing and safety.

Information from the eSafety Commissioner about online Safety

Following on from the visit from our Community Police we have attached to this edition of the Marian some very important information about the following:

There is also an explanation of the process for families if they wish to report to the eSafety Commissioner any form of abuse that has been experienced online.

In this digital world we live in it is so important that all of us, young people and adults, know the expected ways we should behave and where we can seek help when others do not behave in the manner we expect.

As we are at the end of Term 1 and about to enter the colder and darker winter months we need to remind everyone about the importance of resting and rejuvenating over the term holidays to ensure when we return for Term 2 ready to continue our learning journey and growth in 2023.

May Easter be a reminder for us all about the importance of the LIGHT that the resurrection offers all of us for growth even when the world around us seems darker than it should….
