Principal's Message

It does not seem that long ago that we were welcoming everyone back for the start of the new year. And here we are now, two months down the track, and in the last days of Term 1.

As the weeks went by we were able to revel in the many activities that were conducted and appreciated by many. Over the last week parents and guardians were able to speak to teachers and receive feedback as to how their daughters started the year and what progress they have made in their work. Our staff, too, were able to hear valuable insights from the parents/guardians of ways for the school to support the students in their wellbeing and learning. The importance of these partnerships cannot be underestimated. Thank you to all the parent and guardians who supported these parent/student/teacher conferences.

Last week, Ms Bernadette Casey (Assistant to the Principal - Faith  Mission) travelled up north for a Kildare Ministries Retreat at Lake Mungo, New South Wales. The Retreat focused on an Indigenous Immersion Experience led by Vicky Walker. Those who attended the Retreat were able to hear first hand the indigenous experience of being connected to the land and for a short time experience our own lives in the same way. We have a great more to learn of the spirituality of our first nations people and in the coming months we plan to further focus on an aspect of our Mission Statement:

Join with First Nations Peoples as custodians of our Earth, affirming our faith in the future through responsible stewardship of all creation.

Finally, we end the term moving into Easter. The Palm Sunday Gospel reading invites us to understand the true nature of Jesus.

It is interesting to note that the very first paragraph of John’s Gospel (1: 1-5) indicates who Jesus is for John’s community. The Gospel writer reveals that Jesus is the living Word, at one with the Creator. In this, Jesus brings life because he is at one with the source of all life. Jesus is also the Light that can never be overcome by darkness. In these last three weeks, the Sunday scriptures have revealed Jesus as the Living Water, the Light that heals the darkness of blindness and now the Life who will overcome death. This is the message that we take with moving forward into the rest of the year.

I wish all our community a Happy Easter in reflection of its true meaning as well as a safe and relaxing breaking over the school holidays.
