Autism Inclusion Teacher

New Term, New Focus

The new term brings a new focus. After upskilling myself with lots of excellent autism training last term, it’s time to dig deeper.

I‘ve asked staff at Magill School to give me some baseline information to assist with determining our next steps for this term and the remainder of the year, in order to build a more in-depth awareness of autism in our school. I’ll also immerse myself in our school data and unpack our student's needs.

Below are some resources I have come across so far that I thought our community might find beneficial.

  • ‘Positive Partnerships’ have released a great animation, 'What is autism?' The animation provides an introduction to autism and explores our understanding. https://vimeo.com/813438407

  • ‘Spectrum Connect’ https://www.spectrumconnect.com.au/  Is an Adelaide-based website and service that provides a kid's club, parent talks, resources and more.

Here's a little extract from their site:

"Spectrum Connect offers specialist kids clubs and social groups for Autistic children. We want to provide spaces where kids can make friends, try new things and just be themselves. We are not here to "teach" social scripts, instead, we are here to support kids to build their own toolbox of social skills.

At our kids clubs, each week, we offer a different focus of entertainment. This gives the kids a chance to try new experiences in a comfortable space while also providing shared experiences for the kids to bond over.”

My aim as an Autism Inclusion Teacher is to use this newsletter space to continue to share new resources, offer student voice and create further awareness and education, strengthening our autism awareness.

Working together makes life shine brighter.

With kindness,
