Leadership Report

Welcome to Term 2

Term 2 is in full swing, and as always, there is a great buzz around the school. Everyone is excited to see the building project nearing completion and you may have noticed the school sign on Penfold Road. We hope to commission the sign when the building works are completed. The sign will allow us to communicate a variety of messages and reminders to our community, as well as display photos.

We welcome Mike Shortt to the leadership team for the remainder of 2023. Mike is well known to many of our families as he has been a classroom teacher here for several years. His key responsibility is leading literacy improvement across the school.

"I am very excited to be introducing myself as the new Assistant Principal at Magill School. I’ve had the privilege of being a class teacher here for the last 8 years and I consider myself incredibly lucky to continue my involvement in such a fantastic community. I want to take this opportunity to also express my gratitude for the incredible support and encouragement I’ve received in my transition so far. It is an honour to be entrusted with this new role and your faith in me is greatly appreciated. I look forward to contributing to the continued growth and success of our school and excited to meet and work with you all."

Congratulations to Lex Bremner, who has achieved Lead Teacher status, the highest recognition achievable for a classroom teacher. This is a nationally recognised accreditation which acknowledges and identifies Lex as a respected and exemplary teacher. She has consistently demonstrated innovative teaching practice over time. Lex shares her exemplary pedagogical practice with our teachers through one day a week of mentoring and coaching in Numeracy.

Do you have a child starting Reception in 2024? If so, you need to speak to our office staff ASAP to get them on our 2024 enrolment register. Starting from 2024, we will have 2 Reception intakes: Term 1 and Term 3. While the Education Department has not yet released all the information about how the new process will work, we do know that it is important that children are on our register as early as possible. If you are unsure or need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact our office staff.

Lastly, a reminder that Monday the 15th May is a pupil free day. Our staff, along with the staff from our local partnership schools, will be working together to learn more about providing effective feedback for students' learning.
