Year 10 Outdoor Education

The Year 10 Outdoor Education classes travelled to Lysterfield Lake to embark on a day hike around the Lake Circuit Trail. Students used both compasses and maps to help them navigate as a group around the circuit, stopping at each junction to relocate themselves on the map, ensuring they were sticking to the right trail.

Along the way, students took notes of minimal impact, noting down evidence of where visitors to the park either had not abided by the Leave No Trace (LNT) Principles, as well as positive examples of where visitors had actually followed these principles to maintain the sustainability of the various ecosystems at the park. Students are commended for their efforts and behaviour on the day, with not one complaint along the walk, but plenty of smiles and laughter enjoyed during the walk, whilst demonstrating respect for both wildlife and other park visitors.

Year 9 Sports Education in Physical Education Program (SEPEP)

This term in SEPEP, the students have been running and participating in a round-robin volleyball tournament. For each match, there is a duty team that runs the match, including umpiring, collecting player statistics, timekeeping and score-keeping. In the classroom, the students have been writing up these statistics, creating a ladder for all the teams, a ladder for individual player statistics and a PowerPoint on the rules and history of volleyball.

Last Friday, the students ran their finals, including a Bronze medal match and their Grand Final. In the Grand Final, the teams were extremely competitive, going point for point, ending up with one team winning by a mere 2 points with 30 seconds to go. The students were presented with certificates for taking out the win. Congratulations to all the competitors. Throughout the remainder of the semester, students will compete in a number of different sports, developing their skills and tactics, and accruing points to compete in the final championship, for a trophy.
