Primary AFL Incursion

AFL Victoria is the community football engagement arm of the AFL organisation. Amongst many other elements, AFL Victoria provides incursions to schools.

The AFL Primary Play incursions are free visits to schools designed to introduce students to the game of AFL through simple, fun activities. The Year 2, 3, and 5 students have been fortunate to be able to participate in two of these sessions during PE.

The interest in AFL isn’t as high amongst PVCC primary students as it is at other schools and consequently, many of the gameplay elements of AFL were quite new to many of the students. Students were taught how to handpass and kick, and then played wonderful games that gave them ample opportunity to practice, and refine, these skills. As a result, catching skills were enhanced as well.

I, personally, found AFL Victoria fantastic to deal with; their community liaison officer was communicative, and the visiting coach was well-prepared, well-spoken, respectful to the students, and lots of fun.

I look forward to sharing some of the AFL incursion activities with the Year 4 and 6 students next term.

Year 3 & 4 Dance Program

During term 1, students in Years 3 and 4 have been involved in dance lessons facilitated by Stomp Dance School. These lessons have been a fun outlet in which the students explored body movement sequences, concepts, and strategies.

The students have had a great deal of fun and have been enthusiastic dancers. As well, they have been engaged and determined learners; the dances had some complex, and nuanced, sequences. I acknowledge Maddi, the dance instructor from Stomp, for the passion and excitement she brought to each dance lesson, and for generating a respectful, collaborative relationship with our students.

After 5 weeks of lessons, the students were able to put on a little concert on Wednesday (5 April) afternoon for their peers and family members. Students were invited to accessorise to add some flair, and colour, to their performances. Approximately sixty family members came for the concert proving, once again, how valuable it is to have the parent community supporting our students with their various learning outcomes.
