I spoke too soon about the footy…..it’s been a stressful week not knowing if/when my team will get to play! I knew I should not have mentioned the footy in last week’s newsletter.

Final Week of Term 2!

As Term 2 draws to a close I would like everyone to take the opportunity to spend time together without the pressures of having to do school work. We are still in very uncertain times so it’s important we reconnect over this break but obviously follow DHHS guidelines and social distance. Our mental health is incredibly important in tough times and finding ways to look after it should be a priority.

Over the holidays I will endeavour to update you if things change with regards to school operations.

Some Works Taking Place….

We need to have two trees removed over the holidays so you will see some tree loppers here working on a tree at the front and one near the Grade 1 classrooms. It’s better to be safe and have the trees removed altogether than leave them for another year or two.

My Observations

With the differences Term 2 has presented to us, I can’t help but notice how much calmer the school is in the mornings. When I finish yard duty in the drop off zone I usually have a walk around the classrooms. It is pleasing to see so many children who are now able to walk into their classrooms themselves without any parental assistance. I have seen many children become independent, some almost overnight! Teachers have mentioned this to me too. I have never seen the school so settled in the mornings. To be honest, I thought we would see quite the opposite, increased separation anxiety, so this has challenged me.

Now, this does not mean that I would ever close the school to parents or not have parents in the classrooms – we know how important good teacher/parent relationships are to student outcomes.

But, we do need to think about the benefits that these circumstances have presented. Calm students who have become much more independent and focused in the mornings is not something that I can ignore!

On behalf of myself, our leadership team and all of our staff I thank you all for the support you have provided us this term. It has been incredibly tough for everyone. The task teachers were asked to perform (moving all of the content online AND teach the content) was something we have never ever been asked to do before. We certainly were not perfect but I am very proud of how the LPS community handled themselves and the countless extra hours our teachers worked to ensure we were doing the best we could.
