This term, I am including a new section called What Career is That? where I will share interesting and fascinating information about jobs you may or may not have heard of. I hope these insights might answer some of those questions like: 

"Why do we need to know this?" and, 

"When will we ever use this in real life?"

 

We can only include so much information across these pages each fortnight so I have created this more extensive Newsletter version (below) that you can download from your Compass Newsfeed anytime.

Jobs that use Blockchain Technology - Cryptocurrency

"The ‘World Economic Forum’ anticipates that 10% of global GDP will be stored on the blockchain by 2025." To work with this technology, it is essential to know how to code. A Blockchain Developer must know one of the modern programming languages like Java or C++, and yes even Python can be used. These languages don't just help create applications for blockchain but also help learn contract-based or blockchain-based languages like Simplicity and Solidity.

Apprenticeships and Employment

MEGT has a Career Hub packed full with tools and information for potential apprentices and trainees, and students considering an apprenticeship or traineeship are encouraged to register on the Career Hub and receive support in searching for an apprenticeship or traineeship. Once registered, job seekers have access to a range of tools and information to assist them in their search for an apprenticeship or traineeship, including Career Quiz, Skills Assessment and job seeker toolkit. The Career Hub Team will chat with job seekers about any questions they might have about becoming an apprentice or trainee or connect them with one of the MEGT Career Advisors, who can provide guidance on appropriate training and development pathways. VTAC RESOURCES

The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre has now moved all their printed resources online. This enables them to keep up to date and provide direct links to essential information and downloadable interactive PDFs, including this new Guide to Researching Tertiary Education 2020. Please note that some of this material may refer to, and is designed for, VCE studies but much of the information is also relevant for IB students. Year 10 Guide 

If you’re a current Year 10 student, this new guide is designed to help you choose your Years 11 and 12 studies - choosing senior school studies for the right reason. As well as access to some really useful planning tools it includes information about prerequisite subjects, how to research tertiary education, entrance requirements and more. The prerequisites for 2023 entry are now available here.

 

Year 11 Guide

In Year 11, you will need to continue to work through your ideas about what you want to do after school. This includes researching your course options. We recommend at least visiting a couple of open days and becoming familiar with the content of several tertiary courses. The prerequisites for 2022 entry are available here.
