Uniform

A reminder that Year 7-10 students are permitted to wear their College tracksuit ONLY on days that they have General Physical Education classes (not electives). The FULL College tracksuit should be worn to and from school. With the Inter-House Athletics Carnival next week, it may be an opportune time to check that tracksuits and House shirts are in good condition ready to be worn on Friday, 14 August.

The winter trading hours for the Uniform Shop are currently Mondays and Thursdays 1:00pm – 4:30pm. Please note that ties, socks and tights are available for purchase anytime from the Café and Student Services. Orders and enquiries can be made via email uniform.shop@norbert.wa.edu.au.

Drop off and pick up

The safety of students is a priority at the College and some very dangerous practices have been occurring before and after school each day. Please do not drop your child off or wait for them for pick up in the administration or Priory carpark at the beginning and end of the school day. This carpark is only for Priory or school visitors. There is ample parking on Treasure Road.

Year 7 and New Students for 2021 Information Evening

A reminder that on Thursday, 3 September, St Norbert College will be holding the Year 7 and New Students Information Evening for all students commencing in 2021. The information evening provides families with important information about the transition program to assist current Year 6 students and students in other year groups commencing at St Norbert College next year. Both students and at least one parent/guardian are required to attend the evening which commences at 6.00pm in the Fr Peter O’Reilly Centre. After an introduction to the whole group, families will then be split into smaller groups for some more informal presentations and discussion about what students can expect when they commence next year and how they can best prepare for this transition.

Year 10 Subject Selection

It was a very different Year 10 Information Session for Subject Selection this year. The session was held remotely via Microsoft Teams. More than 135 students accessed the session from home with a parent/guardian (possibly in their pyjamas!). The platform enabled students to use the “Chat” to ask many questions about the very important process of preparing for Year 11. The session was recorded and can be accessed via the Teams Page.

All students in Year 10 are reminded that they need to complete the subject choices for 2021 in preparation for the interviews with course mentors on Tuesday, 11 August in the Br Pat Forum. All students received the time for the interview via an email on Thursday 24 July.

Year 12 Information

SCSA Handbooks (Part I and II) are available on SEQTA Documents. They are an excellent reference for all important information regarding graduation, examinations, student information and certification.

Students have been issued with an Organisation Booklet detailing events for Term 3 & 4. Students are also welcome to apply for a College Reference before 25 August.

Students arriving late and/or leaving early procedures

Parents and carers are reminded to please follow the procedure below for students who will be arriving late or required to leave the College early, as this allows the information to be recorded into SEQTA.

Late Arrivals

Students are expected to arrive at Homeroom before 8.45am. We understand that on occasions your child/children may be late due to an appointment or unexpected delays.

If you are aware that your child/children will be arriving late we ask that you send an email to absentee@norbert.wa.edu.au advising of the reason for the lateness and the expected time of arrival. On the occasions when the late arrival is not planned, we ask that you call the College on 9350 5433 or write a note in the students’ diary.

Early Leave

Parents and carers are asked to send an email to absentee@norbert.wa.edu.au or write a note in students’ diary explaining the time and reason for the student leaving.

During Homeroom an Early Leave Slip (Pink Slip) is to be filled out by the student and signed by the Homeroom Teacher. Students are then to come to Student Services with their Early Leave Slip at the required time to be collected and wait for their Parent/Carer.

Student Illness

If a student becomes unwell while they are at school, they are to come to Student Services to make contact with a parent/carer and to wait at Student Services until their parent/carer is able to collect them. Students ARE NOT PERMITTED to email or text their parent/carer from their mobile phone.

Administration staff ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO:

Go to classrooms to collect students if they are leaving early or pass on messages unless it is an emergency or a situation that could not be avoided.
Take items left at home directly to students – the student will be required to collect the item from Student Services.

Subject Selection Online

Students in Years 9–11 are currently completing their selection of preferred subjects and electives for next year. Students in Year 8 will be given the opportunity to commence their elective selections from this coming Monday afternoon, 10 August. For students currently in Year 7, they will find out about how to select their electives for Year 8 at a special assembly scheduled for Tuesday, 18 August. Students will be given two weeks to complete their elective selections before Subject Selection Online closes.

At the completion of the process, all students must print out a copy of the ‘Selection Report’ and hand it in at Student Services signed by both themselves and a parent. Information regarding the curriculum choices available to students is available in SEQTA in the ‘Subject Selection Portal Page’.

Pivot Student Surveys

As with any profession, teachers are always seeking ways to improve their craft. We all aspire to become ‘great teachers’ and one way we can do this is to listen to the thoughts and opinions of those people most affected by our teaching – our students.

This semester, several teachers at St Norbert College will be trialing the use of in-class surveys that will provide their students the opportunity to give feedback on the impact of their teaching within their subject. These surveys are part of the Pivot Professional Learning platform and are linked to the AITSL Professional Standards for Teachers. Approximately 25 staff will run surveys across Week 5 and Week 6 of the term with the surveys taking approximately 15 minutes to complete. Year 12 students will not participate in the survey process as time is limited for them to complete their courses before the end of Term 3. Teachers will then use the feedback from the surveys to create professional learning goals that will benefit their students, fellow teachers and the wider College community into the future.

Save the Date: Year 11 Dinner Dance

Term 3 is shaping up to be an exciting term for Year 11 students. Some students will soon head off on the first of the Kairos retreats for the current Year 11 cohort. Additionally, students will in the coming weeks be given the opportunity to formally apply for College and House Student Leadership positions for 2021. And then there’s the Dinner Dance.

The Dinner Dance was initially scheduled to take place earlier this term but the disruption to College events cause by COVID-19 saw the date changed to Thursday, 24 September at the South of Perth Yacht Club commencing at 6.30pm. An important part of the night will be organised dancing which Year 11 students will have the chance to practice during lunchtime in the weeks leading up to the Dinner Dance. Students attending will be required to abide by dress and etiquette standards which apply for the occasion. Further information regarding the Year 11 Dinner Dance will be provided to students and parents in the coming weeks.
