College Musical

'The Addams Family' cast should have been enjoying their opening night tonight. Students who were involved in this year’s show have automatically been included in the cast for 2021 when we hope to stage this classic, fun show. Other students will be invited to audition in February. There will also be a couple of principal roles to fill, replacing some of our Year 12 students who will have graduated.

VCE Theatre Studies Play

In this new COVID-normal, I invite you to join the VCE class for their major play, Eurydice, which will now be live streamed to audience members in their own home/workplace. Eurydice retells the myth of Orpheus from the perspective of his wife. The story focuses on Eurydice's choice to return to earth with Orpheus or to stay in the Underworld with her father. The production uses elements of Magic Realism, a theatrical style where out-of-the-ordinary occurrences are simply accepted as normal. The class of Year 11 and Year 12 students have created an amazing piece of story-telling.

The play is a 90-minute show, without an interval. The first performance will commence at midday on Wednesday 29 July. There is only one evening performance, which commences at 7.30pm on Thursday 30 July. The final performance will commence at 4pm (allowing families to get home from school) on Friday 31 July.

Tickets can be purchased through TryBooking. They are $10 per adult, $5 for concessions, or a family of four for $25. Naturally, we have no intention of monitoring how many people watch in your household but will be working on an honour system.

A link to your selected performance will be sent one hour prior to commencement to the email address supplied when booking.

Cancelled Performances

Due to issues with finding opportunities to rehearse and prepare, we have taken the regretful decision to cancel both The Cumberland Concert and the Middle School Play, 'The Jungle Book'. We recognise how disappointing this will be for the students and staff involved, but it is just not physically possible to stage these shows.

The other two performances planned for this term, VET Music Industry Night and VCE Theatre Studies Monologue Night will still go ahead as they are assessment requirements for these students. Both will be delivered as streamed performances with further details announced shortly.

The other major performance that we would normally be preparing for is the Director’s Choice Gala Concert. With no other shows from which to draw upon, I am hoping to mount a concert featuring many of our past students. Any past students who have continued to work in some form of the Performing Arts, be it Drama, Music or Film are invited to get in touch with me to discuss how you might be involved. Please email mcooper@aitkencollege.edu.au.

Virtual Play Readings/Lip Sync Battle

We hope to commence these again this term. Students should keep a close eye on the daily student bulletin for details of how to get involved.
