VET Awards 2020
Thank you for your understanding as we adjust our planning and preparations related to COVID.
Assemblies
Whole-school assemblies will no longer take place. These will be replaced by short outdoor year meetings as required.
Attendance
Students are requested to attend school each day unless unwell. Children who are deemed at risk medically are requested to provide a doctor's certificate.
Students with any flu symptoms are asked to remain home and have a COVID test. Any student exhibiting symptoms whilst at school will be sent home and will also be asked to have a test. Before returning to school, the Department of Education now require that we see the documentation advising of the negative result and record the testing centre the student attended.
At this point, students taking sick leave due to other reasons (e.g. mental health, injuries, etc) are not required to provide documentation unless the absence extends for some time, in which case a medical certificate is required as per regulations for extended absence.
Drama
Drama will experience limitations due to voice work required, social distancing and restrictions related to students in different grades interacting.
Excursions
School excursions will be on hold for the foreseeable future. School incursions will also be limited to single year groups and physical distancing requirements.
Learning from home
School is functioning as normal removing the requirement for staff to provide detailed daily lessons online. However, we acknowledge that with more students being requested to remain home if symptomatic until test results arrive, teachers will provide regular updates and greater access to resources through the Google classroom so that students can catch up work missed due to absence.
Music
Music activities are once again limited. We can no longer run choirs, band (due to the restricted use of wind instruments) or large musical ensembles due to restrictions related to students in different grades interacting.
Individual tuition can still occur with social distancing in place.
P&C
P&C meetings will continue on Zoom for the present. Tonight's meeting at 7pm can be attended using the following details:
Meeting ID: 611 2281 6455
Passcode: 772227
Sports
Sport will go ahead, but will be limited to students within our local area. Our teams will continue to head to outdoor training venues this term in line with the recommendations with competition resuming in Term 4. Some sports such as dance related activities will have further limitations, but will still run for the moment. Sport teachers carry sanitiser and wipes to maintain hygiene related to equipment use.
SRE
At this point in time, volunteers who teach SRE groups will be allowed to continue, however, groups are limited in size to no more than 50. Students will participate each fortnight in rotating stage groups due to restrictions - Stage 4 in Week B and Stage 5 in Week A.
Year 12 Parents
Graduation - A ceremony will take place in the last week of this term to recognise students. Unfortunately, parents will not be able to attend in person; however, we will stream the event so that you will be able to see your child receive their award. The ceremony will include only year 12 students and limited staff members. We are working to find ways to make these last weeks for year 12 as special as possible whilst following the necessary health guidelines.
Formal - it has been advised that the year 12 formal should not go ahead at the moment.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to make contact with the school.

We are so proud of these students for their excellent achievement and hard work. Well done.
Congratulations to our Year 12 students for surviving the trial HSC exams! This is a significant milestone in your marathon towards the HSC. We have been impressed with your diligence and determination to do your best, and with the resilience you have shown in the face of the many challenges leading up to the trials. The trial exams provided you with an important opportunity to develop time management and other examinations skills that are vital for success in your HSC, and you should rest assured that you will feel more prepared for your HSC exams after two more months of refining your skills and knowledge.
The next important event on the school calendar will be the graduation ceremony. As with everything in this year of the pandemic, the graduation and other events at the end of term will unfold a little differently to previous years due to the limitations on social gatherings that we must observe. Unfortunately, due to Department of Education rules, parents and caregivers will not be able to attend the actual graduation ceremony; however we will be live streaming the event so that parents and caregivers can participate virtually. The final week of school this term will include the following events to celebrate your achievements:

On July 2nd, Year 11 and 12 participated in the Pasifika Achievement To Higher Education (PATHE). Along with the other girls, we really enjoyed participating in this program as it helps us get ideas on what we want to do in the future and career pathways which we can take. As we are limited to resources and have such a big stereotype against us PATHE is so important for Pasifika youth to attend and participate in to allow us to know that there is no limit to what career we can do and also help us understand that we are smart enough to do things. Also because of the stereotypes against Pasifika people, youth tend to give up on their dream career, PATHE is so useful to the youth nowadays to encourage them to do something that they want to with their lives, beating the stereotypes and breaking the barrier between Pasifika people and what they are thought of by society. Most of our parents left their little Pacific Island to come to Australia and create a better life for their children which is why it is so important for us to make something of ourselves and PATHE is a major help to the youth. Words by Pofaiva Penitani, Year 12.
2017 CGHS Graduate Giovanna Penitani has been involved with the PATHE program since high school and is in her final year of her bachelor degree! Well done Giovanna!
During Week 4, after a stormy night one of the tall trees in the front school garden became uprooted and was leaning on the main school building. It took a team of tree removalists to dispose of the tree safely.
(on behalf of SASS, GA and SLSO)
Welcome back to Term 3, I hope everyone had a happy and relaxing holiday.
