Then & Now

Then and Now

Here’s Mr Skewes with the Under 14 Chadstone lacrosse team. This photograph was taken prior to their grand final game.

We’d like to say they won, but they didn’t. Mr Skewes carried an injury into the game and we’re sure this had something to do with their eventual loss. The injury?  A split knuckle with four stitches holding it together. The injury occurred while Mr Skewes was practicing his skills against the house and he miscalculated a pass, sending the ball into a nearby window and smashing it to pieces. He cut his knuckle when he was cleaning up the glass.

After the grand final loss Mr Skewes had to have his knuckle restitched, so we’re pretty sure this wasn’t a very fun day for him.

Mr Skewes started his love affair with lacrosse when he was a Year 7 student. He was inspired after watching a visiting American team train on an oval near where he was playing football. From this moment on, lacrosse became his sport of choice. By the time he was 17, Mr Skewes had experienced great success as a lacrosse player; representing Victoria multiple times and even touring the USA with the Under 17 Australian team. Wow!

While he doesn’t play lacrosse anymore, his recent participation in endurance cycling events is proof that he is still as tough as the day he played in the Under 14 grand final with a split knuckle.
