Student Voice

Upschool

Recently, I informed you in a recent newsletter about our new Upschool program that our school has taken on. Our goal is to build a library for a school in another country. We are teaching our students how to be Change Makers that is, someone who can make a difference in the world. The children have been working in groups of about eight. Each group is in charge of a particular project with the collective goal of raising awareness and asking the community to help us build a library in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

Three students across Years 3/4 & 4/5/6  have shared their experiences from their groups over the last few weeks.

My group in Upschool is the Advertising Team. Our role is to advertise our online store where people can buy products which will raise money for a library in Pakistan. The people in my group are me, Ruby, Viv, Nikki, Ariel, Ashlee, Aiden and Jason. We have split into two groups. Nikki, Jason and Aiden are making a commercial and the rest of us are making posters to promote our online store.

In the posters group, we’ve been going very well. Most of the group should be finished in the next lesson. The commercial group seems to be going really well too.

The commercial group has started writing a script for their advertisement. On the posters we’ve been adding lots of detail and some are describing the products that we have for sale. Some of the products are extra special, like bamboo extra long/large toilet paper. We are all working our hardest and trying our best. - Bronte

We are trying to raise 10,000 dollars but we can’t do that without the help from our community.

The students have split up into different groups to help promote our goal. My group is called the documentary team. Our role is to take people on a journey and show them the problem we are trying to solve.

So far we have made two short videos about Upschool. In the videos, we talk about Pakistan and how we are aiming to raise money to build a library in a school that needs our help. - Orlando

We are building a library for a school in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The library will cost $10,000. You could really help by  buying from our store. Our store has a lot of products such as bamboo toilet paper and hand wash. Not only is this good for the environment but it will help a community to get new resources.

You can buy these items using the following link:

Also, we are looking at creating events for the community to help us raise funds to build the library, so watch out for future events. - Antonio
