Reconciliation and Easter

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Recently, some of our Year 3’s made their sacrament of Reconciliation. They attended a workshop led by Pia Pagotto from Presentation Family Project the week prior where she explained the sacrament and removed any concerns the children may have had. Children are often nervous the first time they participate in this sacrament.

In this sacrament, we reflect on our need for healing and forgiveness and to seek reconciliation and peace in our heart. We take time to remember God’s love for us, and that God wants us to love one another in the model that Jesus showed us.

We examine our own conscience and ask ourselves these questions:

How do I show love towards others in my life?

What does showing kindness to others mean for me?

How can I show gratitude for what is shared with me?

Can I forgive and let go of hurts?

Easter

Last week, the children of St Bridget’s reenacted the main days of Easter.

The Prep-Year 2 students performed Palm Sunday.

The Year 3/4 students recreated the Washing of the Feet and The Last Supper.

The Year 4/5/6 students provided us with a very moving freeze frame of the Stations of the Cross.

What is Holy Week?

Holy Week recounts the final days of Jesus' life including his death, burial, and resurrection.

On Palm Sunday, we remember the time Jesus entered Jerusalem where everybody started praising him!

On Holy Thursday, we remember it as the day of the Last Supper, when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and established the ceremony known as the Eucharist. This is the night on which Jesus was betrayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Good Friday was the day that Jesus was arrested and put to death by crucifixion.

What are the Stations of the Cross?

The Stations of the Cross are a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ's last day on Earth as a man. The 14 stations focus on specific events of his last day, beginning with his condemnation. The stations are commonly used as a mini pilgrimage as the individual moves from station to station. At each station, the individual recalls and meditates on a specific event from Christ's last day. The Stations of the Cross are commonly found in churches as a series of 14 small icons or images.

1. Pilate condemns Jesus to die

2. Jesus accepts his cross

3. Jesus falls for the first time

4. Jesus meets his mother, Mary

5. Simon helps carry the cross

6. Veronica wipes the face of Jesus

7. Jesus falls for the second time

8. Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem

9. Jesus falls for the third time

10. Jesus is stripped of his clothes

11. Jesus is nailed to the cross

12. Jesus dies on the cross

13. Jesus is taken down from the cross

14. Jesus is placed in the tomb

Easter Sunday is the celebration of when Jesus rose from the dead to be with God.
