Curriculum

Selamat siang!

We had so much fun in our first full week of Term Two. There were so many amazing and creative hairstyles on Crazy Hair Day, helping to raise money for preschools affected by the recent NSW floods.

In Writing, we focused on creating ‘Exciting Endings’ in narrative texts to finish our stories in powerful and interesting ways. We tried to avoid ‘quick fix’ endings such as ‘and it was all a dream’ or ‘to be continued’ and instead used our creativity to finish a story about Noah and a talking rabbit. It was amazing to see how each student's solution and ending was different to others. In Literacy, students explored how the author and illustrator use techniques to express their point of view. We investigated how repetition, colours and camera angles can all be used to communicate meaning and emphasise certain ideas.

Maths: Equivalent Number Stentences
Maths: Equivalent Number Stentences

For Maths sessions, students began the week investigating equivalent number sentences. They applied their knowledge of place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to find as many different equations to fill in the missing elements of the equivalent number sentences. Later in the week students explored money to help prepare for shopping at the Mother’s Day

Stall. They created shopping lists for the stall, and used cents, dollars and notes to create different monetary values.

In STEM, students became Rock Explorers by researching and investigating the different properties and uses for a variety of rocks. They researched how First Nations peoples used rocks and the land for art, tools, cooking and ceremonial purposes. Next, students explored the features of different rocks including their physical appearance, density and hardness. This week we will investigate erosion and its impact on the environment.

During 3/4 Sport, students have been trialling 4 different sports in preparation for our 3/4 Gala Day later this term. After having a go at each sport, they put in their preference for the sport they would most like to play on the day. The sports are Netball, Handball, T-Ball and AFL 9s. It has been wonderful to see so much teamwork and great sportsmanship.

Have a wonderful week,

Miss Chooi, Miss Richardson, Miss Wang, Mrs McCoy, Miss Tillotson and Miss Honan
