MPRPS Receives funding to complete Master Plan

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education James Merlino and Member of Parliament Will Fowles visited MPRPS today to announce funding of $9.982M for our school as a part of the Metro Schools Upgrade. The money will fund the upgrade of school facilities and new buildings so that our resources will match the outstanding teaching and learning that happens at Mount Pleasant Road. Last Wednesday the Deputy Premier and MP met with our School Councillors including President Rebecca Smith, our School Captains Sophie and Ryan, members of our SRC and staff to make the announcement.

I am making a call out to any parents who would like to join our New Building working party to make contact through the school email to express your interest in being a part of an exciting period in MPRPS journey.

Inclusive Playground Official Opening

On Wednesday we were to be joined by Dustin Halse MP for Ringwood to open our Junior School Playground. Unfortunately, Dustin was unwell but did send us a message of support and congratulations. The redeveloped sand pit accessible from the hard court areas and the new playground equipment has modernised our Junior Playground and supported all students through ramps and interactive panels to access the playground. With the additional landscaping funded by the school, the whole area is a much more useable and student friendly place.

Working Bee

Mmmm...if I had my time over again we definitely could have had our Working Bee on Saturday. So much for the poor weather forecast. Thank you to all our families who volunteered and were ready to tidy our school.

We have decided to hold our Working Bee on our Open Day Saturday 28th May.

Look out for further updates.

ICAS

MPRPS will be participating in ICAS competitions again this year. ICAS is an online academic competition that is designed to assess students’ higher order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing and Digital Technologies. This is a parent paid competition and is open to students from Grades 2-6. We will be running the tests in Term 3 during the sitting windows. These sessions will be run after school from 3:40 - 4:40pm to minimise disruption to the regular school day. All tests will be supervised by staff across the school and we appreciate their time in providing this opportunity for our students. All parents with children in Grades 2-6 should have received an email through Sentral with information about ICAS and how to register. Dates for the ICAS tests in Term 3 are:

  • Digital Technology - Monday 8th August
  • Writing - Wednesday 10th August
  • English - Wednesday 17th August
  • Science - Monday 22nd August
  • Mathematics - Monday 29th August

If you have have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the office.

Year 6 to Year 7 Placement Information Pack 2022 -23

All Grade 6 parents/carers should have received their Year 6 to Year 7 Placement Information Packs via Sentral. This pack outlines the process for applying for a placement in a government high school including a timeline. Please ensure that the pre filled information is correct and return to school via email by Friday 13th May.  If your child will be attending a non government high school in 2023 and you have an accepted placement in another setting please inform the office.

Mothers' Day Stall

Last Friday students had the opportunity to purchase a gift for their mum from the Mothers' Day stall. There were an array of options available, ranging from travel mugs, tote bags, scented candles and even patterned oven mitts.

We thank Flip McKinnon and Emily Harnett for organising the stall and the additional parents for volunteering their time to ensure that it all ran smoothly. We hope that students spoilt their mum in one way or another last Sunday!

Crazy Hair Day Fundraiser

Last Friday saw a wide range of crazy hair arrangements on display! This fundraiser was held to raise money for the preschools and communities that were impacted by the recent floods in NSW. The money will go towards the 'gofundme' page 'Support Community Preschools after the flood'. We realise and have been made aware through news coverage that it has been a particularly challenging time for those that have been affected by these floods, particularly in the town of Lismore and surrounding areas. We thank everyone for supporting and helping to raise money for this  worthy cause. We raised $400.30!
