SOUTHERN METROPOLITAN REGION SWIMMING RESULTS

On Monday, 14 of our students competed at MSAC in the Southern Metropolitan Region Swimming competition. Competing against students from over 400 schools, our students were great ambassadors for our school. They were respectful, enthusiastic, positive and eager to do their best; and the best they did! Our students performed admirably. Congratulations and well done to:

Unfortunately, Levi de Saint (6/8) who was to swim in the 12/13 Years Boys/Mixed relay and the individual Butterfly was in isolation.

Thank you to all the parents who have supported our swimmers throughout the Swimming program (District, Division and Region). You have all been fantastic - pleasure to work closely with. You have been so supportive; bringing your child to training on a Monday and Wednesday and supporting all LPPS swimmers.

A special thank you to Lara Squires (Will) who has her Surf Bronze qualification and attended all training sessions to ensure I was able to run them.

YEAR 6 INTERSCHOOL SUMMER SPORT

In Year 6, students have the opportunity to play sport against other schools. This term students participated in one of the following sports – rounders, softball, newcombe, and cricket. Friday mornings were spent practising the skills of the game, developing game strategies and learning the rules of the game. Last week, the students then participated in the Lightning Premiership against the schools in the District – Baxter, Langwarrin, Pearcedale, Somerville, Somerville Rise and Woodlands. All students thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

One of the highlights – Ava Scott who played in the Kanga B team, had a HATTRICK.

Many thanks to Jodie Madigan (Chloe 6/7) and Sally Abby (Emma 6/7) who looked after the Girls Softball team and Kerry McInerney (Luke 6/7 and Josh 6/8) who looked after the Kanga B team.

HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY

It was fantastic to see so many enthusiastic and eager students with House Coloured shirts/tops, ready to tackle the Cross Country Course.  Parents, teachers and students cheered on all competitors as they ran the course. Some students finished the race with smiles on their faces, whilst others showed exhaustion or relief.  The most rewarding thing was to see so many students participating and giving it their best to complete the course. Not everyone can be in the top 10, but everyone is a winner when they give 100%.

Thank you to the following parents/helpers (prior to helping, “jumped through many hoops” to complete the necessary documentation for the Education Department) who provided valuable support and encouragement for all competitors as well as greatly assisting me with handing out wrist bands, timing, place-judging and data entry.

  • Erin Harrison (Ashton 6/7 and Lenny 3/25), Alicia and Owen Karachiwala (Hayley 6/6), Maree Lyne (Baylen 5/12), Cathie Bailey (Bodhi 4/19), Katy Crockford (Piper 4/20), Kim Taranto (Lennox 3/24), Paris Gorham (Summer 3/25), Corrine Hoffman (Chloe 4/19), Meagan Arena (Lyvia 4/19), Chiara Cartwright (Hayden 3/24), Leah Gilbert (Amy 3/24), Belinda Egan (Hudson 3/23), Sarah Smith (Imogen 3/23), Cassie Fitzgerald (Anna 3/24), Adam Grant (Summer 5/12)
  • Special mention to Kylie Kissick (Grace 4/19) who was the timekeeper for every race and Mel Schmidt (Connor 6/6) and Kerry McInerney (Josh 6/8 and Luke 6/7) who stayed the entire time to help with collation of results.

It is also important to mention the role of the House Captains and Vice Captains. They assisted with the set up and pack up of the course. In the younger age group races they scattered themselves around the course to cheer on the competitors, providing them with encouragement and assistance for some students who were at times a little distressed.
