Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

Congratulations to all students on their participation in Monday's Cross Country event. The Tawonga course is a challenging event, and it is always great to see students push themselves to achieve their best and cheer on their peers.  Many thanks to Tawonga PS for their organisation and to the many families who came along to support students on the day.

Over the month of May, our students are participating in a daily whole school walk/run as part of our support of the 2 billion kilometres to safety school challenge.  This challenge is helping support UNHCR to provide emergency support to refugee children forced to flee their homes and students will be working towards the goal of walking 243km during the month.  Families and friends are invited to sponsor students as they work towards achieving this goal.  For more information on how you can sponsor your child or make a donation, please see our team page here.

This week students enjoyed their first of a 5 week Tennis program, thanks to Tennis Australia. Over the five weeks, students will have the opportunity to develop their skills through four coaching sessions with local tennis coach, Geoff Hollow.

As celebration of our students achievement in music, a series of Musical Showcases will be held in June.  These will feature the 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5 classes on Wednesday 8th June and the Prep and 5/6 classes on Wednesday 15th June.  Both performances will be held  from 2.30pm - 3.15pm, in the undercover area, and families and friends are invited to attend.

As excitement builds for the approaching snow season, preparations for the Prep - Year 12 Interschools skiing and boarding program are now underway.  If your child would like to be part of the Mount Beauty Primary School team, please email your interest in writing to the school.  For more information and to view the schedule of events, please refer to our Community News page.

This year's NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy)will commence next week for all students in Years 3 and 5.  The tests will be conducted over a two week period and will assess Writing, Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar, Reading and Numeracy.
